  • Pentagon’s deputy press secretary, Sabrina Singh, refrains from verifying documents’ legitimacy but states that the Defense Department is: “aware of the reports of social media posts, and the Department is reviewing the matter.”

Following reports of leaks, Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy and top military/security officials discussed ways to prevent the leak of military information at a Friday meeting.

According to a researcher at Bellingcat, the online investigative group, reveals that the documents originated from 4chan image board in March.

Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence directorate, said on Ukrainian TV:

“It is very important to remember that in recent decades, the Russian special services’ most successful operations have been taking place in Photoshop,”

“From a preliminary analysis of these materials, we see false, distorted figures on losses on both sides, with part of the information collected from open sources.”

Separately, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy‘s office discusses info leak prevention in meeting with senior military staff. And noted that: “the participants of the meeting focused on measures to prevent the leakage of information regarding the plans of the defense forces of Ukraine.”

U.S. officials remain quiet: What if the leaked documents were really true?

  • Initially, if the authenticity of the published documents is confirmed to any extent, the unauthorized disclosure of classified data is deeply concerning.

A U.S. official noted that the initial documents bear similarities to daily data from the Joint Staff, though there are discrepancies in certain numbers.
