Panic! At The Disco Disbands

The pop-rock band that began its journey in Las Vegas nearly 20 years ago and later became a solo venture for Brendon Urie is retiring. Urie announces the group’s plan to disband after its forthcoming European tour on Tuesday. He also shares the good news of expecting his first child saying, “I am going to bring this chapter of my life to an end and put my focus and energy on my family, and with that Panic! At The Disco will be no more.”

Brendon Urie’s Statement about the retirement

Bredon Urie announces the famous band’s retirement with a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday. He begins the letter by saying, “it’s been a hell of a journey…”

  • He reminisces about the unexpected journey from Vegas to traveling the world and making friends in the process. However, sometimes a journey must end for a new one to begin. He shares the news of expecting his first child, calling it a humbling and exciting adventure.
  • That being said, he shares his plans of focusing his energy on his family, while ending his journey with Panic! At The Disco. He thanks his fans for their immense support over the years, whether they’ve been here since the beginning or are just discovering them. At last, he shares his excitement of seeing everyone in Europe and the UK for one last time as Panic! At The Disco.

  • The announcement received mixed reactions from fans. Some expressed their surprise. However, many expected the news since Brendon Urie was the sole runner for the group for years now.

History of Panic! At The Disco

The group, with seven albums, was formed in 2004 when Urie and co-founders Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, and Brent Wilson were still in high school. They debuted with the album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, the following year and started on the road to stardom with their hit single I Write Sins Not Tragedies.

  • Unfortunately, Brent Wilson left the band over a dispute of lack of responsibility before the release of their next album, Pretty. Odd., which marked a change in their musical direction. Ultimately, Urie and Smith continued with two more albums, Vices & Virtues and Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!
  • Spencer Smith departed from the group officially in 2015, leaving Brendon Urie as the sole runner of Panic! At The Disco. Urie released two more albums and appeared on Broadway as the lead in the musical Kinky Boots.
  • Recently, Urie collaborated with Taylor Swift, appearing in the music video for her 2018 hit Me! and lastly released the album and single Viva Las Vengeance last year. With that, Urie decided to end his journey as Panic!
  • Although it is an end of an era, it will be interesting to see which direction Urie takes his musical journey after bidding farewell to Panic! At The Disco.
