Diablo Immortal is free-to-play, but there are pay-to-win elements in the game which has fans frustrated
At launch, both long-time players and new players seemingly enjoy Diablo Immortal. However, all good things must come to an end as some players began questioning whether the game really is free to play or you have to spend to win.
Most games nowadays advertise themselves as free-to-play but contain microtransactions which ultimately make players lose interest in playing. And Diablo fans are starting to get frustrated over its pay-to-win elements. If you’re unfamiliar with microtransactions and pay-to-win, it basically means you spend real money on a free game. And by spending money, you get an advantage over other players.
On the other hand, pay-to-win games are usually those available on mobile devices. Another term for these types of games is “freemium”. Of course, it’s up to the player to choose whether they’d like to spend their money on in-game purchases. However, games like Diablo Immortal incorporate these predatorial mechanics which can drive away potential players.
Other gaming outlets reported that to max out a character with the best equipment and stats, you need to spend $110,000. For F2P (free-to-play) players, they will spend a total of ten years grinding and have their characters reach max stats.

One streamer spent more than $4000
In recent news surrounding Diablo, a streamer actually spent more than $4000 for in-game purchases. But despite spending a large amount of money in Diablo Immortal, they were unable to get even one 5-star Legendary Gem. According to the streamer, the reason they did this is to test the RNG (Random Number Generator) of Diablo Immortal. And through this expensive test, players became more frustrated at Diablo Immortal’s pay-to-win mechanics.
Gamers are frustrated over how many pay-to-win games are popping up nowadays. It completely defeats the purpose of having fun since you’re forced to pay just to get a boost or level up your characters.
Diablo Immortal has low scores from players
Although the Metacritic review for the mobile version game is 81, the player score tells a different story. Players who reviewed Diablo Immortal shared that the game is a “blatant cash-grab”.
There are no comments yet from Blizzard Entertainment regarding these issues, but we can only hope that they resolve these discouraging pay-to-win mechanics in Diablo. The game itself is good, but you’ll either have to grind as much as you can or spend as much as you can.
