Can Klay Thompson Return to His Former All-Star Form?

Game 6 of the 2019 finals, back in June 2019, Klay Thompson suffered a horrible torn ACL injury that ended his season. It cost the team a championship, as he and Durant were injured during that series.

Klay Thompson missed the 2019-2020 season, as well as the season after that because his injury was deemed CAREER-ENDING.

Before he was injured, Klay was a solid 22 points per game guy.

A catch-and-shoot player you can rely on every night. He is also a good perimeter defender, alongside Draymond Green, who makes the Warriors one of the best in defensive stats.

A 5-time all-star, 2x All-NBA, 1x All-Defensive, 3-point contest champion, and a 3x Champion, Klay is one of the centerpieces of the Warriors dynasty. An absolute threat from three, Klay is dubbed as a splash bro (alongside Steph). Together, they dominated the whole NBA from 2015-to 2019, winning 3 out of 5 finals. But, after almost three years of being out, Klay announced that he is returning to the court on January 9, 2022.

“Dubs nation, I am back!”
– Klay excitedly gave the Warriors fans hope for his return.

In his first game back, he tallied 17 points in 20 minutes of playing time against the Cavaliers. In 15 games this season, he has already averaged 17 PPG, 2 APG, and 3.5 RPG. Impressive, yet it still is far from his all-star numbers.

Klay is a great scorer and an excellent defender.

A guy who was missed by the Dub Nation for a long time. He was part of the dynasty, and without him, the Warriors wouldn’t have dominated the way they did.

But, after Klay’s return, he took playing time from the rising stars in the game – Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins. Before Klay played, these two guys were playing very well. Although they are still producing a decent amount of points, assists, and rebounds, their playing time was cut shorter. The team will have to make adjustments in the future to utilize all of these players properly.

Will Klay Fully Recover?

The Warriors are still on top of the food chain, but they need their three stars (Curry, Thompson, Green) to be on the championship run again.

Will Klay be able to recover fully? Absolutely. We have seen players in the past who’ve recovered from a torn ACL or a terrible injury. He is not known for his athleticism, so he’s safe from the banging and pounding down below. If the Dubs make the proper moves, and Klay plays safely, it won’t be a matter of time until we see Klay in his All-Star form again.
