Official closing date for Splash Mountain and a New Ride

For many, the Splash Mountain ride has been a controversial topic for its ride theme “Song of the South”, 1946 which many claims to be racist. The story was based on a young boy visiting his grandmother’s plantation for an extended stay after the American Civil War ended. The Splash Mountain ride has already closed in Disneyland Florida for over 2 years but now Disney has officially announced that the ride will be closing on 31st May and here’s more news on a new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Carmen Smith, Senior Vice President, Creative Development posted a blog stating “The magic of the bayou is calling, so listen closely because we’re “digging a little deeper” into the experience guests can expect from the future attraction coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure”. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take the guests on a journey inspired by the story and characters from the hit film, picking up where that story left off.

What to Expect

  • The ride will be based on the adventures of Princess Tiana from “Princess and the Frog“. In a few more details revealed by Disney, most of the fan-favorite characters from the movie such as Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, Louis, Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Macedonia, and Prince Ralphie will be a part of the ride.
  • In addition, most of these will be voiced by their original actors namely Jenifer Lewis, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, and Anika Noni Rose.
  • There will be some new characters such as a band full of adorable critters, including an otter, a rabbit, a racoon, a beaver, a turtle and others.
  • As for the musical genre, Disney stated that they will light up everyone’s mood with Zydeco, a music genre that evolved in southwest Louisiana.

An Insider on the New Ride

The mountain will be reimagined as a salt dome-like one Imagineers visited on Louisiana’s Avery Island during one of their many research trips for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The construction of the ride started as soon as the last ride of Splash Mountain. Seems like Disney is in no mood to waste any time after one of the most popular ride, Splash Mountain closed.

Disney plans to bring the guests into this new world of Princess Tiana adventure at Disneyland Resort and Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort by 2024.
