On the latest scoop of things that are outrageously eccentric in the world, we bring to you the admiring (for some) yet relentlessly frantic (for another) news. News regarding the North Korean Youth Army has taken a stroll. If this is any true, about 800,000 North Korean youth have volunteered in the army. Are we on the brink of Nuclear War?
- According to a report in North Korea’s state newspaper, approximately 800,000 citizens of the country have reportedly volunteered to join or re-enlist in the military to combat the United States.Â
Are we on the brink of a Nuclear War?

In North Korea, men are obligated to serve for ten years and women for three years under a conscription system.
The situation seems to hint at possible fear of a Nuclear War. At the precipice of which one must recount the past history of having come close to such similar points, only for nothing to have happened. This also brews another interesting concept to think about – are we possibly amidst a current North Korea and US Cold War?
The Missile Situation that’s brewing-
And this is amidst an ongoing missile situation anyways. According to assessments by South Korea and Japan, on Sunday, Kim’s regime launched a ballistic missile. It traveled about 500 miles across the country before landing in the sea off the east coast.
- There were no reports of any injuries resulting from the launch, and Japan confirms that the missile landed outside its exclusive economic zone.
- North Korea claims that the joint military drills between the U.S., Japan, and South Korea are the reason for its launches.
- They also vowed to respond to such operations with an overwhelmingly powerful force. Meanwhile, the Pentagon argues that such operations have successfully deterred North Korea.
The launch of North Korea’s missiles and its recruitment campaign coincided with the start of joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States. Named Operation Freedom Shield 23, the 11-day drills began on March 13th and will continue for eleven days.
The North Korea Youth Army of 800,000 reports and what it says

Getting back to the North Korean 800,000 army mobilization – The newspaper attributed this to the young generation’s unwavering determination.
One that concerns itself with the elimination of perceived threats to their socialist country. Points of national reunification also play a thematic appearance. It also regarded the surge in enlistment as a display of their strong patriotism.
- According to the report, the soldiers have enlisted to defend against the “US imperialists and puppet traitors [who] are trying to destroy our independence and right to live and develop.”
- On Friday, state-led rallies were held at theaters and construction sites across the country, as shown in visuals released by North Korean state media, where dozens of young people queued up to enlist.
On the history of US and North Korean relations
Any would know that this isn’t the first altercation (or close to altercation) that both nations have had in the recent decade. North Korea and the United States have a long history of tense and hostile relations, characterized by the absence of diplomatic relations.
The source of this contention can be traced back to the Korean War, in which both countries fought on opposing sides.
Following the signing of the armistice, areas of contention have arisen, such as North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and missile tests, human rights record, U.S. sanctions against North Korea, and military exercises conducted by the U.S. and South Korea
