One of the things that can derail your progress in Stardew Valley is those restricted areas you have to unlock. You may be ready to hand in the quest items or talk to someone, all to discover that the place inaccessible. You’ll have to build a relationship or do another thing within the game to unlock it. Well, a dedicated Stardew Valley player has found a way for you to circumvent the grind using a very reliable piece of furniture.
How the Exploit Works
The 1.5 Stardew Valley update revealed that you can now interact with chairs in the game. Previously, you could only look at them, which made no sense. The update helped add some realism to the game, but this new addition created the exploit.

TikTok user Salmence showed the potential of being able to sit down by bringing the interactable chair with them. You can pick up the chair and set it down at entrances of restricted locations. From there, all you need to do is interact, and you’ll sit on the side of the barred area. Once you stand up, you’ll able to access the previously restricted location without any issue.
There are many things you can do with this exploit:
- Access NPC’s rooms even if you haven’t built relationship points with them yet. It allows you to give gifts, talk to them, or complete quests. You’ll have to wait for them to open the door first.
- Access the secret woods
- Visit the mines early
- Access the quarry early
While this seems like it would elicit a negative response, the opposite happened. One of the biggest challenges in Stardew Valley is managing your day effectively. Players can progress faster and speedrun some parts of the game through early access.
The developers will likely catch wind of this and patch it. Players can enjoy the exploit now while it’s still here.
Not the First One
Exploits aren’t uncommon in Stardew Valley. There are many bugs and odd things that can happen to your game once in a while. It’s part of the game’s charm, and discovering them can be equally as fun.
For example, there is a popular item ID exploit that people use. The goal is to add an item ID they like to their character name. Every time an NPC speaks their name, the item spawns in the area. It’s a glitch you can use to quickly farm or change how you play the game.
Many players enjoy these things because it allows them to put the game in a different dimension. It’s like discovering new ways to play with your old game.
Another exploit is saving time with fishing using your journal. Since your journal pauses the in-game clock, it allows you to fish efficiently. That way, you’ll avoid the long time spent often associated with the vital task. You can only do this if you have an active task, and you’ll be able to fish everything you need for the week in a single day.
