It is now time for Pokemon to embark on a new journey. After over two decades, the anime is preparing for a fresh start. This implies that Ash Ketchum’s time on the show is drawing to a close. But underlying the key visuals of this new Pokemon Anime Pocket Masters is a friendly revisit of an old friend.
The recent tide of changes before Ash Ketchum leaves for good

Recently things have been uplifting for Ash Ketchum and his decade-long buddy Pikachu. Although for them such a time may have been only a year or two worth of journey. But for most of the fans, including you and me, have been involved with Ash’s journey for way too long.
- Since the English dub of Pokemon Journeys is still ongoing, it may be a while before the new Pokemon Anime reaches U.S. audiences. As a result, Ash is still safe on American screens for the time being.

As our protagonist concludes his goodbye tour, attention is turning to the upcoming Pocket Masters anime and its two main characters. However, the reports as mentioned prior show that the focus is transitioning from the trainers to an unexpected legendary creature.
Fresh information has been released from Japan, with the latest edition of CoreCore magazine becoming available recently.
A Rayquaza in New Pokemon Anime?
- Fans were treated to an update on the 2023 Pocket Masters Anime, which will feature Roy and Liko as the main characters. It has been revealed that the duo will commence their adventure in the Paldea region. Yet before they embark, they will encounter a Shiny Rayquaza.

As shown above, CoroCoro magazine has featured an image of the legendary Shiny Rayquaza from the upcoming anime, and it looks as stunning as ever in its black-red color.
More details about the trainers and their adventure will likely surface soon. The new Pokemon anime is set to premiere in Japan on April 14th, but no information has been given about its release in other regions.
Who is this legendary in the new Pokemon Anime visuals?
- OG fans may recognize this Pokemon as the mighty Rayquaza. Anyone who has played Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald will recall their quests after this one.
- Before venturing into Rayquaza, one had to conquer Groudon and Kyogre. The three naturally formed the super-ancient legendary Pokemon Trio.
The ancient legendary trio

- Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza are three legendary Pokemon, each possessing dominion over a different elemental sphere.
- Kyogre reigns over the hydrosphere, Groudon over the lithosphere, and Rayquaza over the atmosphere, which is reflected in their respective types.
These three Pokemon also share several physical characteristics, including similar symbols on their bodies and yellow eyes.
Some suggest that they could be inspired by creatures from Hebrew mythology, specifically Leviathan (a sea monster), Behemoth (a land beast), and Ziz (a giant bird).
But how is the Rayquaza, black in the new Pokemon Anime?

In the remakes of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, titled Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Groudon and Kyogre have gained the ability to undergo Primal Reversion, while Rayquaza has been given the ability to Mega Evolve.
Primal Reversion is a process that restores the Pokemon to their original power, while Rayquaza is the first Pokemon known to Mega Evolve.
Similar to Ho-Oh’s role for Ash, Shiny Rayquaza may serve as a spiritual guardian for Roy and Liko as they embark on their journey. Fans are also speculating whether the shiny creature’s color might play a significant role in the story or if it hints at Roy or Liko’s affinity for shiny Pokemon.
