NBA legend Shawn Kemp arrested after drive-by shooting incident; Is this connected to his Cannabis business?

Shawn Kemp arrested

Former NBA star Shawn Kemp, who was known for his powerful dunks and dominant presence on the court, has found himself in trouble with the law. Kemp was recently arrested following a drive-by shooting incident in Washington. While details of the incident are still emerging, some are speculating that it may be connected to Kemp’s involvement in the cannabis industry. As an advocate for legalizing marijuana and the owner of a cannabis shop in Seattle, Kemp has been vocal about his support for the industry. However, it is unclear at this time whether there is any connection between his business and the shooting. Read more below to find out the details of the arrest.

The details of the drive-by shooting incident that led to Kemp’s arrest

Shawn Kemp, 53, was booked in by the Tacoma Police Department on Wednesday following an altercation near the Tacoma Mall that lead to a drive-by shooting. As seen in the video below, there were shots fired last Wednesday afternoon in the parking area.

According to Tacoma PD, the incident happened around 1:58 pm when a “53-year-old male” allegedly started shooting the person he got into a fight with on the street. Four hours later, the authorities made an arrest who was later known to be Shawn Kemp. Although there were no reported casualties and no one was injured, the cops still booked the former NBA all-star. Also, a gun was recovered afterward.

The reason behind the altercation was not yet revealed but Kemp and his camp said that the shooting was an act of “self-defense”. However, some people on the internet believe that this has something to do with his Cannabis endeavors. Rumors are spreading that his Marijuana business has got something to do with the drive-by shooting incident, but there has been no clear evidence to that speculation. Further, the investigation is still ongoing with Kemp being held by the cops.

As a supporter of the substance, Kemp already has two stores in Seattle. He gained backlash when he started his first store in 2020 for the support of Marijuana but proceeded to create another Cannabis dispensary in February 2023.

Shawn Kemp’s career as an NBA player and his current involvement in the cannabis industry

Shawn Kemp, known as the “Reign Man,” was a dominant force in the NBA during the 1990s. Kemp played for several teams throughout his career, including the Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Portland Trail Blazers. He was a six-time All-Star and helped lead the SuperSonics to the NBA Finals in 1996. Kemp was known for his high-flying dunks and his powerful presence on the court.

In recent years, Kemp has become involved in the cannabis industry. He is an advocate for the legalization of marijuana and owns a cannabis shop in Seattle called Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis. The shop sells a variety of cannabis products, including flowers, edibles, and concentrates. Kemp has spoken openly about his belief that marijuana can be used for medicinal purposes and his desire to see it decriminalized.

Kemp’s involvement in the cannabis industry has not been without controversy, however. In 2020, he faced criticism for opening his shop during the COVID-19 pandemic, which some saw as a reckless move that put public health at risk. Additionally, there have been concerns raised about the potential impact of Kemp’s business on the community, particularly with regard to youth exposure to marijuana. Despite these concerns, Kemp remains committed to his cannabis business and continues to advocate for the legalization of marijuana. He even opened a second shop in SODO just recently this year.
