“It’s ten times better than last year!”, said Kenny Smith during the 2023 Slam Dunk competition. Mac McClung surely saved the slam dunk tourney after putting in an array of magnificent dunks. After taking home the championship, McClung becomes the second white player to win the event (the first was Brent Barry). He also becomes the first G-League player to grace the contest. Everyone loved his effect on the All-Star weekend, but who would beat McClung in the future?

Ja Morant
Put Ja in the slam dunk competition! The 2-time NBA All-Star has crazy hops even though he only stands at 6 feet and 2 inches. Just looking at the ridiculous dunks he does on a nightly basis makes basketball fans think he needs to compete in the slam dunk contest sooner or later. Not only are his dunks insane and jaw-dropping, he also likes to posterize whoever gets in his way (just asked Jakob Poeltl).

In the 2023 All-Star game, Ja Morant showcased his dunking ability. However, he has one condition for him to participate in a dunking competition in the future, and that he wants to get 1 billion likes for him to consider. Impossible? Maybe not!
Aaron Gordon
Last year’s slam dunk contest was one of the worst, if not the worst, in the history of the All-Star weekend. Since the Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon duel in 2016, no competition has ever come close to that kind of electrifying activity.
That being said, it would be just right to bring Aaron Gordon back to the tournament after being robbed of the trophy three times.

Anthony Edwards
If there is one word to describe Anthony Edwards’ in-game dunks, it’s “FILTHY”.
Similar to Ja Morant, Ant-Man also likes to throw it down … on his opponents. He has been asked to participate in the dunk contest, but he has been clear that he only wants to “dunk on people”. Regardless, his fans would love to see him in that event someday.
Zion Williamson
According to CBS, Zion Williamson is giving “heavy consideration” to participating in the 2024 slam dunk contest. Should Zion do this? Definitely YES!

Even though he is one of the heaviest players in the league, Zion is a helluva dunker. A lot of people have been requesting the high-flying forward to join the slam dunk contest at least once. It all could come true next year if Zion opts to join once and for all.

Trey Murphy III
Trey Murphy III may be known as a knockdown three-point shooter, but he went up to the air in the 2023 Slam Dunk contest. In all fairness, Murphy’s dunks were extremely fun to watch and were very creative. He did put on a stellar show with his creativity and finesse.
If McClung wasn’t a participant, Murphy would for sure win it this year. However, it was just not meant to be. But, if we’re going to pick somebody to go up against Mac McClung in another slam dunk tournament in the future, it would definitely be Trey Murphy III.
