Christian Wood’s Resume

Christian Wood, 26, went undrafted back in 2015 but found a spot in an NBA team through hard work and perseverance. It took him a long time to find his rhythm but eventually broke out as a legit big man in Detroit. Soon after that, Wood was traded to the Houston Rockets where he improved his play and was already putting the league on notice. He immediately rose to fame while also showing how talented he is in Houston.

The big man out of the University of Nevada is currently proving that he is one of the best bigs in today’s league. This season, he is averaging All-Star-worthy numbers: 18 PPG, 10 RPG, and 2 APG. To add, listed below are all of the great things about Wood:

  • Christian Wood has great handles and impeccable footwork for a big man
  • Has quick lateral movement
  • He has the length and size to rebound, contest shots, and block them
  • He can also score from anywhere on the court – from behind the arc, the perimeter, or in the paint
  • As stated above, Wood has a great work ethic. It’s the best trait an athlete can have as hard work always beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard.

What’s in store for Dallas?

This year, nobody thought that Luka and the Mavs would reach the Western Conference finals. They surprised the league by upsetting the championship favorite Phoenix Suns in 7 games in 2nd round of the playoffs. Then, Luka would go up against the healthy and heavily experienced Warriors team who would eventually win this year’s championship.

Probably the team’s biggest weakness is a reliable force in the paint to compliment Luka’s game. Although they have Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber as reliable role players in the front court, they are really in need of a star big man to take this team to the next level. Previously, many thought that the Doncic-Porzingis would work out perfectly. Well, it certainly did not.

With the addition of Christian Wood to the Mavs, it would be difficult to say if this team-up would work out just fine. Earlier this season, there have been rumors about minor problems in the Rockets locker room. In addition to that, Houston’s front office chose the rookie Alperen Sengun over Wood, who plays the same position which means there’s something a bit off. But, if Christian keeps his discipline and composure, it wouldn’t be much of a problem for Luka and Dallas.

Wood still has 1 year left on his contract in Houston. And after being traded, this means he will only stay with the Mavericks for another year. If his stint in Dallas does not pan out, it will be easier to cut him from the roster by the end of the season. Hopefully, Christian Wood is what Dallas has been looking for to pair with Luka Magic.
