NBA: 2023 All-Rookie team selections – Who will get in?

nba 2023 All-Rookie teams

Every season, a new set of young talents grace us with their impeccable basketball skills and talents. With some of them going to greater heights, it is rightful and just to separate them from other guys in their class by putting them in a selected group – the All-Rookie team. The All-Rookie consists of two teams – the first and second teams – filled with the 10 most outstanding rookies. Let’s take a look at which rookies this season have the higher chance of being selected in this elite group.

2023 NBA All-Rookie First Team

  • Jaden Ivey (Detroit Pistons)
  • Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder)
  • Bennedict Mathurin (Indiana Pacers)
  • Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic
  • Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz)

It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if the All-Rookie team is formed by the 2023 Rookie of the Year top 5 front runners. The first five rookies that are currently on the Rookie of the Year ladder are Paolo Banchero, Jalen Williams, Walker Kessler, Jaden Ivey, and Bennedict Mathurin.

Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero held the number 1 spot throughout the whole season. With 20 points and 7 rebounds average, he could be the clear-cut 2023 RoY. Meanwhile, Jalen Williams from Oklahoma City Thunder is coming in at second for being a great contributor for OKC as they make the Play-In tournament. On the other hand, Jaden Ivey (Detroit Pistons) and Bennedict Mathurin (Indiana Pacers) have both proved to become spectacular scorers and could be reliable players for their respective teams going forward. Among all the players here, the most surprising rookie so far is the 2023 22nd overall pick, Walker Kessler. Kessler has been a great addition to the Utah Jazz with his defensive prowess and tenacious rebounding. Truly, Jazz got a great player in exchange for Rudy Gobert.

2023 NBA All-Rookie Second Team

  • Andrew Nembhard (Indiana Pacers)
  • Keegan Murray (Sacramento Kings)
  • Jabari Smith Jr. (Houston Rockets)
  • Jeremy Sochan (San Antonio Spurs)
  • Tari Eason (Houston Rockets)

In contrary to the first team, the second team is quite difficult to judge. The 3rd overall pick showcased his scoring abilities, but he is one of the most inefficient scorers in the NBA today. His 40.6% field goal percentage is the 9th lowest in the whole league. Despite that, his production still won’t go unnoticed. Joining him is the Sacramento Kings forward, Keegan Murray, who also struggled early this season with his offensive inconsistencies. However, he has been a huge help for the Kings to push them for their much-awaited playoff appearance since 2006.

For the two frontcourts in the second team, we’re going with two big men who seem to have a high ceiling – Spurs’ Jeremy Sochan and Rockets’ Tari Eason. Sochan has been getting a lot of praise from his coach, Gregg Popovich, due to his work ethic. Meanwhile, Eason’s defensive skills are already in great form. On the other hand, Andrew Nembhard doesn’t get quite the attention as the others in his class. He is an underrated scorer and playmaker with 9.3 points and 4.5 assists in season averages. But, he has been a different type of beast in the second half of the season as he improves consistently. In his first year, he already has a career-high in points with 31 and a career-high in assists with 15.
