Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung starrer SBS K-drama, ‘My Demon,’ is making headlines ahead of its November release. The credit for this goes to the leads’ who have fans swooning and kicking feet from their chemistry on posters and Elle covers. But will the drama be able to keep fans engaged with its clichés, let’s explore.
‘My Demon’ brings back K-drama clichés with Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung
The two popular actors are going to return to the screens with a typical K-drama including marriage contracts, breathtaking supernatural beings, and picturesque locations. Its two trailers highlight the dual aspects of the series, namely, romance and fantasy.

In the first trailer uploaded by Netflix, Jung Gu Won (Song Kang) is introduced as a heartthrob devil, who gets a fixation on Do Do Hee’s (Kim Yoo Jung) wrist due to a tattoo. This opens a plethora of possibilities for wrist-grabbing while the leads enter into a tug-of-war as a businesswoman and her bodyguard.
In the second trailer, we get to witness the boss-girl personality of Do Do Hee. She is married to her work and doesn’t care about men unless exposed to the majestic abs of Jung Gu Won (fairly understandable). To further add to the chaos, the unlikely couple gets into a marriage contract.
For a K-drama fan, all of the above-mentioned troops are as familiar as the back of their hands. This raises the question of whether ‘My Demon’ will succeed in garnering positive reviews and ratings.
Will the series gain good ratings?
2023 has been a surprising year of K-dramas. Many of the expected chartbuster releases including Cha Eun Woo’s ‘A Good Day To Be A Dog,’ Park Hyung-sik’s ‘Our Blooming Youth‘, Im Soo Hyang’s ‘Kokdu: Season of Deity’ and more garnered mixed reviews.

Many of the fans expressed that there was a particular drought of K-drama which everyone was watching, similar to 2022’s ‘Twenty Five Twenty One,’ ‘My Liberation Notes,’ ‘Love In Contract,’ ‘Little Woman,’ and more.
‘My Demon’ also has a chance of receiving mixed responses despite sparking buzz because of its synopsis’ predictability. While Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung are masters at playing their part, fans have already seen similar flow in other K-dramas such as ‘Doom At Your Service.’

However, the drama does have a hope and scope of succeeding by embracing clichés similar to ‘King The Land,‘ which included the typical love story of a chaebol and his righteous employee but managed to garner massively positive reviews.
Additionally, going by the excitement of fans My Demon Kdrama is likely to succeed. It will be released on Netflix and SBS on November 24, starring Lee Sang Yi, Kim Hae Sook, Lee Yoon Ji, and more along with Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung. Will you be tuning in?
