Mushoku Tensei II: Why is Elinalise searching for Rudeus?

With Mushoku Tensei II Episode 4 we’ve nearly reached the end of volume 7 of the web novel, leaving out the extra chapter. The episode marked the return of Elinalise in a post-credit scene. Elinalise was introduced to us in the previous season as a companion of Roxy. This time around she looks more eager to find Rudeus. 

In episode 4, Elinalise overhears some men discussing Rudeus. This piqued her interest and she persuaded them to answer her queries about Rudy with her twisted ways. If you’re curious about why Elinalise is searching for Rudeus? Here’s the detailed answer from the anime and the web novel perspective. 

Why is Elinalise searching for Rudeus?

In Mushoku Tensei season 1, Roxy was looking at the list of missing people after the teleportation calamity. When she is relieved to look at the absence of Paul’s family in the list of the dead, she finds a message displayed by him.

• Paul asks people who know him and belong to his former party to look for his family. He goes as far as practically begging them to look for his family.
• Two other people besides Roxy seem to be interested in Paul’s call for help. One of them was Elinalise. That’s when we get introduced to her.
• Elinalise was one of the members of Fangs of the Black Wolf, the former party of Paul and Zenith.

She had good relations with Paul or so it seemed like back then. She accepts the request and sets out on a journey to look for his family along with Roxy and Talhand. This is as far as we’ve gotten with the anime.

Mushoku Tensei II: How things turn out in the Web Novel?

In Episode 4 of Mushoku Tensei II, we see her alone, without Roxy or Talhand by her side. In the light novel, it is revealed that Roxy finds out Zenith’s whereabouts. The three of them part ways to inform the rest of the family. Roxy sets out to the Mili’s continent, where Paul is, with Talhand. Whereas Elinalise goes on to search for Rudeus to inform him.

It can also be seen in the trailer that Elinalise and Rudeus are heading somewhere together. To sum it up, Elinalise is looking for Rudeus to help Paul out and inform Rudy about Zenith. 

Conclusion

Elinalise is searching for Rudeus so we’ll get to see them meeting up sometime in the future. At the same time, it seems like the union of Roxy and Rudeus is further delayed. As Roxy is on her way to Paul who is in Millis Continent. Rudeus has parted ways with the Counter Arrow in the meantime. Even though the time he spent with the Counter Arrow was short-lived, it was impactful for Rudeus. 

Things have been a mix of positives and negatives for Rudeus in Mushoku Tensei Season 2 so far. Will things start to pick up? Hopefully yes while keeping in mind that Mushoku Tensei has been a mix of all sorts of emotions.
