In MrBeast’s latest video, the most subscribed YouTuber in the world helps 1,000 blind people see for the first time. For this collaboration, MrBeast AKA Jimmy Donaldson joined hands with Jeffrey Levenson, an eye doctor who runs an organization that offers free eye surgeries. Read to find out where it all started, how this collab happened and how people have reacted to the latest video.
Who is the eye doctor?
Dr. Jeffrey Levenson is a Florida-based ophthalmologist and Chief Medical Officer at SEE International, a non-profit organization for eyecare.
- The eye doctor’s first encounter with MrBeast came when the YouTuber’s representatives reached out to him after watching his TED Talk called Ending Preventable Blindness: reinventing cataract surgery.
- MrBeast’s representatives told Dr. Levenson that they wanted to collab with him for a thousand free cataract surgeries. The eye doctor claims that he didn’t know who MrBeast was and almost hung up on the phone call.
- After Googling him and realizing his massive reach on YouTube, Dr. Levenson decided to collab with MrBeast for the eye surgery video.
Collab with MrBeast
In an interview with Insider, the eye doctor Jeff Levenson said that working with MrBeast on this video felt like being on a Hollywood set. MrBeast is known for his elaborate challenges that involve a huge number of participants which might be chaotic.

- However, this video needed a lot of care and attention while filming as it involves actual medical surgery. The surgeon operated on 40 people in a single day.
- The main motive of this MrBeast and eye doctor collab video was to create awareness on the accessibility of cataract surgeries. Almost half of all blindness in the world can be cured in a 10-minute process.
Surgery for 1,000 blind people
The eye surgeries offered free of cost in the video usually cost around $7,000 per eye. These are cataract removal surgeries. Cataracts are common with aging but sometimes happen in young eyes too.
- In 9 days since its release, the MrBeast video titled 1,000 Blind People See For The First Time has over 94 million views.
- The video shows before-and-after-surgery reactions of visually impaired people. MrBeast also provided cash and gifts to some of the participants.
Social media reactions
Despite being an act of generosity, MrBeast has received appreciation and criticism in equal measure. Twitter users have accused MrBeast of chasing clout and views with this stunt.

Regardless of one’s stance on the new MrBeast video, it’s hard to deny that the YouTuber has single-handedly managed to ignite a debate on preventable blindness.
When an individual has the capacity to cure the blindness of 1,000 people in a week’s time, governments and medical organizations can surely up their game.
