It has long been known that the next sci-fi Cyberpunk 2077 RPG will contain romantic options. But, the details on this interesting feature are practically non-existent. However, given the reputation of CD Projekt Red and the romantic work done in The Witcher 3, there is a strong hope that the issue is not at all trivial. Today, UI coordinator Alvin Liu mentioned the exact nature of romance in the game.
Liu has always provided a lot of game details including the primary setting of Night City, various game systems and mechanics, making it more accessible, and technical features. The love story was never mentioned by Liu, especially to avoid spoilers on the opera. But, today, he essentially stated that the love story in Cyberpunk 2077 will be realistic and distinct.
Liu said the team wanted to write “strong characters” with “personalities to interact with”. Referring to Triss and Yennefer of The Witcher 3 as examples of strong and charismatic characters. This is not the first time the Cyberpunk 2077 love story has been compared to The Witcher 3.
Beyond the plot-based relationships, Liu explained that Cyberpunk will be a modern world with modern approaches to sexual relations. Here are Liu’s exact words on the subject:
“I don’t want to spoil, but we want to write very strong characters. We want to have personalities to interact with. We wanted to do as in The Witcher 3 where Yennefer and Triss had very different personalities, it was interesting. So that in this sense, we have selected some characters that will have ‘very rich’ relationships. But since it is a modern world, we also have the stories of a night, so something similar is also possible. It’s like in the real world, you can even exchange money for sex”.
Liu also added that Cyberpunk 2077 will have a Wanted system similar to Grand Theft Auto but, unlike the latter, the 2077 police are corrupt and take bribes in a similar way to Skyrim’s guards.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16th, 2020, on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
