Minecraft: Respiration Enchantment | How to Craft & Use

In order to improve your tools, armor, and weapons in Minecraft, you must apply enchantments to them. On top of providing buffs, they also grant certain unique and useful abilities to the players. The Respiration Enchantment is one among them that gives you the power to breathe underwater for a prolonged period.

Crafting the Enchantment

• Go to the enchantment screen by opening it up from the enchantment table.
• You can either use a helmet or a turtle shell for it to be enchanted.
• Use Lapis Lazuli to power up the enchantment table.

• Place an item for enchantment and select Respiration from the three randomized options.
• Clicking on the Respiration option will cause your helmet or turtle shell to be infused with the enchantment.
• The level of enchantment provided will be based on the player’s level within the game.

How to Use the Respiration Enchantment

• Respiration Enchantment provides you the ability to breathe underwater for a longer period of time.
• For every level, it provides an additional time of 15 seconds that can be spent below water without costing your health. The enchantment reaches up to level 3, meaning it can provide a maximum bonus of 45 seconds.
• When paired with the turtle shell, it becomes even more powerful as it guarantees a period of 70 seconds before running out of health.
• This ability also reduces the rate of health degeneration than usual when the player runs out of breath and starts drowning.

Aqua Affinity

• Increases the player’s mining speed underwater.
• Compatible items: Helmet, Turtle Shell.

Bane of Arthropods

• Increases attack damage against enemies like spiders, cave spiders, silverfish,  endermites and bees. It slows them down as well.
• Compatible items: Sword, Axe.

Blast Protection

• Protects the player by reducing incoming damage from explosion and firework.
• Compatible items: Helmet, Chest plate, Legging, Boots and Turtle Shell.

Channeling

• Summons a lightning bolt to deal additional damage to enemies when attacked with a trident. This only works during a thunderstorm.
• Compatible items: Trident.

Cleaving

• Increases the attack damage of an axe along with the ability to stun shields.
• Compatible items: Axe.

Depth Strider

• Increases the player’s movement speed underwater.
• Compatible items: Boots.

Efficiency

• Increases the mining speed. Also increases the chance to stun a shield with an axe.
• Compatible items: Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Hoe.

Feather Falling

• Reduces the fall damage sustained by players.
• Compatible items: Boots.

Fire Aspect

• Sets the targeted enemy on fire when attacked with a sword.
•  Compatible items: Sword.

Fire Protection

• Reduces the damage when a player catches fire. Also reduces the burning duration.
• Compatible items: Helmet, Chest plate, Legging, Boots and Turtle Shell.

Flame

• Sets the target on fire when it is hit by an arrow.
• Compatible items: Bow.

Fortune

• Increases the chance to drop specific items while mining and digging.
• Compatible items: Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Hoe.

Impaling

• Increases the damage dealt with trident to mobs that spawn underwater.
• Compatible items: Trident.

Infinity

• Enables the player to fire an unlimited amount of arrows.
• Compatible items: Bow.

Knockback

• Knocks the enemies back further when they are attacked with a sword.
• Compatible items: Sword.

Looting

• Causes the mobs to drop more and rarer items when they are defeated using a sword.
• Compatible items: Sword.

Loyalty

• The trident automatically returns to the player after being thrown.
• Compatible items: Trident.

Luck of the Sea

• With this enchantment the player can catch more valuable items while fishing.
•  Compatible items: Fishing rod.

Lure

• Decreases the time for a bite on the fishing hook.
• Compatible items: Fishing rod.

Multishot

• Allows the player to shoot 3 arrows or firework rockets at the same time. Only one arrow or rocket is consumed for each shot fired.
• Compatible items: Crossbow.

Piercing

• A single arrow can penetrate multiple targets.
• Compatible items: Crossbow.

Power

• Increases the damage dealt by arrows.
• Compatible items: Bow.

Projectile Protection

• Reduces the incoming damage by projectiles sustained by the player.
• Compatible items: Helmet, Chest plate, Leggings, Boots, Turtle Shell.

Protection

• Reduces every kind of physical damage towards the player.
• Compatible items: Helmet, Chest plate, Leggings, Boots, Turtle Shell.

Punch

• Increases the rate of knockback to enemies when attacked by an arrow.
• Compatible items: Bow.

Quick Charge

• Decreases the time taken to charge up a crossbow.
• Compatible items: Crossbow.

Riptide

• The player launches himself along with the trident by throwing it in a desired direction. This only works while the player is wet i.e. under rain or water.
• Compatible items: Trident.

Sharpness

• Increases melee weapon damage.
• Compatible items: Sword, Axe.

Silk Touch

• The players will get the exact same block after breaking it upon usage of this enchantment.
• Compatible items: Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Hoe.

Smite

• Increases the damage dealt to undead mobs.
• Compatible items: Sword, Axe.

Sweeping Edge

• Increases the sweeping damage dealt by swords.
• Compatible items: Sword.

Thorns

• When an enemy attacks a player, some of that damage is reflected back to them.
• Compatible items: Chest plate.

Unbreaking

• Increases the durability of every kind of item.
• Compatible items: Helmet, Chest plate, Leggings, Boots, Turtle Shell, Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Sword, Hoe, Fishing Rod, Bow, Trident and Crossbow.
