If you’re a fan of both Marvel and My Hero Academia, then you may have noticed some subtle references to the Marvel Universe in the popular anime series.
From character designs to plot points, My Hero Academia plays homage to the world of Marvel in a variety of ways. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at 10 Marvel references in My Hero Academia.

Marvel references that you will find in My Hero Academia
1) Kamui Woods and Groot

The number 7 Pro Hero, Shinji Nishiya, is also known by his hero name, Kamui Woods. He possesses a quirk that enables him to increase his size and manipulate his wooden body parts. He can transform his body into robust tree branches. However, his body is not resistant to fire and he is unable to deal with it.
Meanwhile, in the MCU, Groot from Planet X also has a body entirely made of wood. Groot’s extraterrestrial bark makes him impervious to various projectiles. He has the power to manipulate all plant life and can elongate his limbs and project vines from them. If he sustains damage, he can regenerate himself as long as his twigs and branches remain.
2) Mei Hatsume and Iron Man

Mei is an intelligent and inventive individual who has created various types of equipment that can be useful in different scenarios. She can also create new inventions when busy with some other task or even with one hand. Mei also possesses a strong business acumen as she took full advantage of the Sports Festival where numerous scouts from prominent Hero Support Equipment Companies were present.
Tony Stark aka Iron Man is a highly skilled engineer who is also a prosperous tech company owner. Tony came up with an iron suit in a cave where he was held captive while enduring a heart injury. He has designed numerous iconic Iron Man suits and the Arc reactor. He is also the creator of the Artificial Intelligence in the MCU known as Jarvis and Friday.
3) Toru Hagakure and Invisible Woman

Toru aka the Invisible Girl in My Hero Academia excels in espionage thanks to her Invisibility quirk. She also possesses the ability to bend the path of light that passes through her, enabling her to amplify the light and create a dazzling burst.
In Marvel, Sue Richards is also known as the name Invisible Woman, and has the ability to make herself vanish entirely or partially whenever she desires. She also possesses the ability to turn any object invisible that has a volume under 40,000 cubic feet. She accomplishes this by bending the wavelengths of light in the surrounding region around herself or the intended target.
4) Turbo Hero Ingenium and Quick Silver

The representative of Class 1A at UA High School, Tenya Ida has a unique ability that equips him with car-like engines in both his lower legs. This enables him to run at an impressive speed and kick with great force. To keep his engines running, he relies on orange juice as fuel. With his remarkable reaction time, Tenya can easily defeat his adversaries.
In MCU, Quicksilver has similar abilities to that of Tenya. He has the ability to run at supersonic speeds. Further, he possesses adequate energy reserves that permit him to maintain this average speed for an unknown period of time, after which he would slow down to recharge his energy levels.
5) Bakugo and Nitro

Bakugo’s quirk allows him to produce a substance similar to nitroglycerin through the sweat on his palms. By igniting this substance on command, Katsuki can create powerful explosions. The intensity depends on the amount of sweat he produces. Bakugo can use his explosions not only for an offensive purpose but also to propel himself through the air.
Nitro possesses a similar power that allows him to transform himself into a living bomb. He can detonate his entire body at will, leaving behind a sentient, gaseous form until he reforms himself. Normally Nitro’s maximum explosive force is equivalent to approximately 250 lbs of TNT. However, by using a growth hormone, he can surpass his original power limits.
6) Himiko Toga and Mystique

Himiko possesses the ability to take on the physical appearance and voice of another individual whose blood she has consumed. The duration of her transformation depends on the amount of blood she drinks. If she ingests the blood of multiple people then she can switch between appearances. For instance, if she drinks a cup of blood then she can retain the body for 18 hours.
Meanwhile, Mystique from Marvel resembles Himiko as she has the power to manipulate her biological cells using her mind. This ability enables her to replicate the exact physical appearance, voice, and even clothing of any human being, including their unique retina patterns, voice prints, and skin-pore patterns.
7) The cover images of MHA manga and Marvel Comics

The front page of this edition of MHA depicts Izuku in combat with Muscular. On the right, we have the cover photo of a comic from Marvel’s Spiderman where he is seen struggling with Venom.
Here, we see the striking similarities between the two cover images where the Marvel Comic was released on December 12, 2007, while the My Hero Academia manga was released on June 3, 2016.
8) Denki Kaminari and Electro

Kaminari has an ability that enables him to produce electricity and envelop his body with it. Despite being apple to project this energy over a distance, he has minimal influence over it, causing it to spread out. Denki can absorb and eliminate electrical currents as well as other lightning-based abilities. He has a defense mechanism for anyone who comes into contact with him, leaving them slightly paralyzed.
Electro, in the MCU, possesses a superpower for generating electrostatic energy inside his body, which can be released or controlled for a variety of purposes. He is powered by tiny, regular muscular contractions that usually manage body temperature. He can generate electricity at a rate of roughly 10,000 volts per minute. Electro can adjust the amount of electricity he emits using his mind and can vary it from a single volt to 10,000,000 volts at once.
9) Shota Aizawa and Rogue

Shota possesses a quirk that enables him to cancel out another person’s quirk by merely making eye contact with sthem. This ability can continue to have an effect even if Shota can no longer see the target.
Marvel Universe has a superhero with similar powers who can acquire a diverse range of attributes from another individual, including their powers, knowledge, memories, personality, and physical capabilities. Marvel’s Rogue can even absorb psionic powers and this transfer requires her to touch their body.
10) All Might and Sentry

Toshinori Yagi also known as All Might has a quirk that allows him to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power. This allows him to significantly enhance all of his physical abilities to a superhuman level. This resulted in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability. All Might is so proficient with One For All that he is widely known as the world’s most powerful person.
The Sentry from the Marvel Universe resembles All Might by possessing remarkable levels of superhuman strength, speed, and intelligence, as well as invulnerability, enhanced senses, and flying powers. When stable, he has the potential for virtually limitless power, but he becomes weaker and easy to defeat if his mental state wavers.
