Mandalorian Season 3: Why did BoKatan’s plan fail? Darksaber and history of Mandalore explained

Mandalorian season 3 Bo Katan plan Darksaber

Mandalorian season 3 is further diving into Bo-Katan Kryze’s story arc with failed plans which light the history of Darksaber and Mandalore’s politics.

Mandalorian season 3 hasn’t been the kindest to Bo-Katan Kryze’s story arc. Who once was a prominent leader of Mandalore is left alone in the dark castle of Kalevala defeated. Her plans that we saw growing during season 2 have failed and she is left bitter. She has no troops or hopes.

She also doesn’t possess any sympathy toward Din Djarin. Who at one point in season 2 secured her help to rescue Grogu from the Imperials. At the cost of exchange for Darksaber in possession of Moff Gideon. This blade of authority belonged to her at one point and she needs it again to revive her homeland, Mandalore.

This is why she is clearly distressed when the claim of the blade goes to Din Djarin for defeating Gideon at the end of the season 2. As of now, with her re-introduction in season 3, we reach the question of what exactly went wrong for her over the seasons. Thankfully, the first episode sheds light on the whole matter explaining how Bo-Katan’s plans fail.

A powerless ruler of Mandalore

Bo-Katan Kryze has left no stone unturned for reclaiming the homeland in Season 2 of Mandalorian. She is determined and tenacious in fighting for her people. After they lost their land due to civil unrest. However, the faith of this Mandalore’s leader depends on the Darksaber.

At one point in history, she did hold the blade of authority but as presented in the spin-off series, Book of Boba Fett, she never earned it. The Darksaber was presented to her by Sabine Wren without any combat. Which according to Mandalore’s culture doesn’t give her the rights that an owner of Darksaber enjoys.

This is why when the Darksaber with its authority goes to Din Djarin at the end of season 2 Bo-Katan’s plans for reviving Mandalore fail to see fruition. She is left defeated without the authority to lead and any chance to redeem herself in the eyes of her people.

Bo-Katan Kryze’s arc in Mandalorian season 3

Following the loss of power in season 2, Bo-Katan returns to her people with nothing to offer. All her promises for reviving Mandalore remain unfulfilled and she resigns herself to the castle of Kalevala with no plans and no troops.

She explains this matter bitterly to her sole guest, Din Djarin. The fact that Djarin received the rights of Darksaber left her with no authority whatsoever. Due to this, her beloved ships and allies no longer have reasons to stand beside her. They are now taking mercenary jobs wherever they can find.

This situation sows the seeds of animosity bound to rise between Bo-Katan and Din Djarin regardless if they want it or not. Currently, Djarin is the unwilling owner of Darksaber and if Bo-Katan wants her power back then she must defeat him in combat.

As of the season’s beginning, Bo-Katan is willing of helping Djarin in his quest to visit Mandalore. To regain purity he lost for exposing his face to Grogu. However, her long persistent desire to rule her homeland will need addressing eventually.

It will be interesting to see if she decides to stand against Din Djarin for sake of her mission or not. In her current weakened state, it is also unknown if her willingness to help Djarin is a way to confirm if her homeland is still habitable and worthy of reviving her purpose.

There is also a chance of her discovering a way where she achieves her goal even without the power and authority provided by the Darksaber. Either way, we’re sure to see more of Bo-Katan Kryze in Mandalorian season 3. Let it be alongside or against Din Djarin.
