Star Wars The Mandalorian season 3 premiered on March 1, 2023, hinting at what happened to Moff Gideon played by Giancarlo Espasito after Season 2
Din Djarian and Grogu are back with the third season of Mandalorian. It took them over two years to reach this point although we did see them briefly in The Book of Boba Fett. which takes place between the second and the third seasons.
While he did not make an appearance, the The first episode did give a good hint about the series’ antagonist Moff Gideon played by Giancarlo Espasito, regarding his current whereabouts, as well as hinting towards his possible return in the season.

Moff Gideon is to return in Mandalorian Season 3
In the premiere of the Mandalorian season 3, fans saw Mando visit Nevarro to visit Greef Carga, played by Carl Weathers. Greef is now the High Magistrate of Nevarro. The place is brimming with good fortune in its new transformation under his leadership.
During the visit, Greef shares with Mando that the place is in need of a marshal. Hearing this Mando inquiries about Cara Dune, who played a significant role in the previous two seasons, and seemed apt to be Greef’s marshal for Nevarro.
Outside of the show during production, the actress playing Cara Dune, Gina Carano was let go from the show. Which provoked the need for an in-series explanation for the absence of Dune.
This is why Greef explains, Cara Dune joined special forces after she brought Moff Gideon. Furthermore, sharing that Moff Gideon is sent to a New Republic war court. This brings us to the question of what they did to him.
What can happen to Moff Gideon
With the mention of his whereabouts in Mandalorian’s season 3 premiere, we can be sure that Moff Gideon isn’t old news yet. His influential character in the first two seasons will have some importance in this one as well. However, it is still unclear what can happen to him.
One of the possibilities is his trial. There are plenty of loose strings to attend to related to Moff Gideon’s decisions which can be tackled in his trial. Such as what led to the genocide in Mandalore and what happened there later.
Fans don’t even know how many of the Mandalorians escaped which all can be answered through Gideon’s trial. This can also prove to be an opportunity for the shrewd and calm evil to escape or clear his name from the bunch of war crimes.
Overall, the mention of Mandalorian’s antagonist is enough to trigger the curiosity surrounding him. His character is also not in a similar position as Cara Dune, who is probably not returning anytime soon.
Moreover, Moff Gideon will definitely believe in having unfinished business with Mando. Which raises the chances of them coming face-to-face again. Let it be through the help of Pirate king Gorian Shard or in his own way.
Lastly, every hero needs an equally powerful and heinous villain to deal with. Otherwise, it steals the tension from the show. Moff Gideon is the perfect threat to peace in the blue fiction. Due to this, it will be interesting to see how his character is incorporated ahead in Mandalorian season 3 premiering on Disney+.
