The much-awaited second episode of The Mandalorian’s third season is on its way and here’s what we know so far about it including plot, what to expect and official release date. Disney+ has confirmed that Episode 2 will have a runtime of 42 minutes, 24 seconds. This comes as a relief to most fans of the show as the first episode of the season was barely 35 minutes long.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 2 has a confirmed release date on March 8. The new episode which is essentially Chapter 18 premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday at 12:00 a.m. PT, 3:00 a.m. ET, and 8:00 p.m. CT.
Just like the rest of the third season, the second episode is also expected to focus on the relationship and journey of Din Djarin and Grogu AKA Baby Yoda. The duo has fully embraced the father-son dynamic not just here but in the latter part of the spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett, as well.
What to expect from The Mandalorian Chapter 18?
Some critics have already shared reviews for the second episode as they applaud the return of Din Djarin and Grogu. Despite watching the first and second episodes together, most early reviews clearly pointed to the second episode being exceptionally well-done. According to an exclusive IndieWire review, The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 2 is almost all plot focused.

It moves things forward really fast with minimal accomplishments within the episode itself. Mando’s character arc for the entire season gets accelerated in the upcoming episode. It’s safe to assume that the 42-minute episode may not tie up any loose ends but gives The Mandalorian fans a clear idea of where this show is headed.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 2’s plot details
As showrunner Jon Favreau had confirmed, The Mandalorian’s Season 3 will try to fit within the wider Star Wars timeline and fans can expect the second episode to take this route. The first episode effectively set up Mando’s need to fly to Mandalore and bathe in the living waters under the mines.
To recap things, Din Djarin had admitted to his warrior clan that he had broken the Mandalorian Creed by removing his helmet publicly. His only source of redemption is bathing in the living waters.
The second episode is most likely to pick up from where the first had abruptly left with Bo-Katan telling Din Djarin that the living waters beneath the mines still exist. This means that The Mandalorian has to resolve a few things before he visits Mandalore’s famous civic center.
Will Luke Skywalker return in Season 3 Episode 2?
Fans believe that most of the setups in the 35-minute first episode of The Mandalorian Season 3 was uneventful. So, they hope for the rest of the season to propel itself faster.
Luke Skywalker made his first appearance in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale. The character is most likely to return to the show especially as fans expect him to team up with former Jedi Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.
Jon Favreau said on a recent podcast that "S1 & S2 of The Mandalorian take place over many years, Also Grogu trained with Luke Skywalker for two years until he ultimately went back to Din Djarin in The Book of Boba Fett." TWO YEARS training under Luke 🤯 pic.twitter.com/TT4e85eZRD
