Developers at Hangar 13 share their assets and models across projects. At first, they wanted to integrate Mafia 3’s lighting into Mafia: Definitive Edition. They, however, went on to completely rework the lighting models for the upcoming game.
Mafia 3’s lighting was good. But overall, it could have been better. So, Hangar 13 redid the lighting model for Mafia: Definitive Edition.
Speaking to USGamer, Hangar 13 President and Chief Creative Officer Haden Blackman said, “We’re actually a multi-project studio. Everything we do at Hanger 13 is meant to be shared across projects. The lighting in Mafia 3, we thought was really good, but at the end of the day, it felt like maybe it wasn’t good enough. So we went in and we redid our lighting model for Mafia: Definitive Edition. That’s now tech that’s been added to our engine and that will carry over into the next game that we do, the game that we’re working on now.”
They even brought Mafia 3’s gunplay mechanics to Mafia: Definitive Edition. There are, however, significant changes. There are advanced difficulty settings as well. In contrast to Mafia 3’s repetitive missions, Mafia: Definitive Edition will feature diverse and more meaningful missions.
Mafia: Definitive Edition will be out for PC on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One on August 28.
