Madame Web trailer

The Spider-Verse is all set to expand on the big screen thanks to the upcoming Marvel x Sony movie ‘Madame Web’. A new trailer for the film reveals some exciting cast members like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney as they unravel a web of action-packed psychic intrigue. Let’s take a look at the complete trailer breakdown and find out more details about Madame Web including cast, crew, release date and how it is connected to the Spider-Man comics.

Madame Web trailer breakdown

The trailer opens with Dakota Johnson who plays Cassandra Webb AKA the titular Madame Web, as the Billie Eilish song ‘bury a friend’ plays in the background. She seems to possess psychic abilities and predict the futures of fellow superheroes.

In the process, she meets a masked villain who is clearly a visual reminder of Spider-Man. The trailer takes a time-loop route as we watch Cassandra experiencing the events before actually waking up to confront them in reality.

We also see glimpses of her everyday life as a paramedic in Manhattan alongside a character played by Adam Scott (Severance). She later joins a trio of teenagers who are supposedly threatened by the villain Ezekiel Sims.

While things seem normal on the surface, the teens are all set to acquire spider-related superpowers and we even get a quick peek at that. On the whole, Madame Web seems like a perfect mix of action, psychological thrills and girl power for a Spider-Man spinoff movie.

The film is directed by S.J. Clarkson who is best known for her work on The Defenders and Jessica Jones. Officially the film is part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters. So, it’s likely to be connected to the Venom films or even Kraven the Hunter.

While there is no confirmed release date in the trailer, Madame Web is slated for a Valentine’s Day release on February 14, 2024.

How does it fit into the Spider-Verse?

Comic book enthusiasts are excited for the upcoming Madame Web movie as the character draws inspiration from The Amazing Spider-Man #210 comics which came out in November 1980. The original Madame Web guides Spider-Man through her psychic visions.

Fans eagerly await to know how Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web will incorporate into the rest of the vast Spider-Verse. Some even expect the film to have a crossover to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fit into the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man movies.

Furthermore, Sydney Sweeney’s character Julia Carpenter holds a special place among Spider-Man fans as she later becomes Spider-Woman in the comics. She becomes the second Madame Web after the first one gets killed by Ana, the daughter of Kraven the Hunter.
