There is little doubt that Loki Season 2 Episode 5 raised the stakes for the God of Mischief and his band of unlikely allies from the TVA but one of the coolest things about Science/Fiction was how it explored the past lives of Loki’s friends. For instance, OB turned out to be a brilliant scientist who dreams of being a science fiction writer. But the intriguing revelation involves Casey who might actually be a real-life criminal with an infamous escape plan!
In Loki Season 2 Episode 5, the God of Mischief finds himself alone in the TVA headquarters as the Temporal Loom causes everything to disintegrate. As he begins time-slipping, Loki comes across Casey, who is in the middle of a daring escape from Alcatraz in 1962. Interestingly, Casey does not recognize Loki and continues with the plan to leave the prison island. But wait, doesn’t this sound familiar?
Was Casey Part of the June 1962 Alcatraz Escape Attempt?
In the episode, Casey is referred to as “Frank” by his two companions in 1962. It’s an important name with real-life ties to an incident in Alcatraz that continues to be an unsolved mystery.
In June 1962, Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris executed a remarkable escape from the notorious Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Under the cover of night, on either June 11 or the early hours of June 12, the daring inmates meticulously concealed paper-mache heads, cleverly crafted to resemble their own likenesses, in their prison beds.

Their ingenious plan unfolded as they meticulously navigated through the prison, exploiting ventilation ducts and an abandoned utility corridor. This route allowed them to bypass the main prison building and its security measures. Without alerting the vigilant guards, the three inmates embarked on their audacious journey towards freedom.
Finally, utilizing an improvised inflatable raft, they set sail into the uncertain waters of San Francisco Bay, their destination and ultimate fate shrouded in mystery. However, it looks like Loki Season 2 Episode 5 finally revealed what happened to Casey aka Frank Morris.
What Role Will Casey Play in Fixing The Temporal Loom?
It looks like everyone has an important role to play in the plan to repair the Temporal Loom with the Throughput Multiplier in the previous episode. But what can Casey do to help his companions in the season finale? As we have already seen, he was the one helping OB in building the device in the first place. In addition to that, his temporal aura is necessary to achieve the solution they need to fix the problem.
For now, it is suggested that Loki must assemble his own little TVA Avengers of sorts and although he already knows where everyone is, he has yet to find one key character: Victor Timely was surprisingly absent from Loki Season 2 Episode 5 which has people wondering. Was Victor supposed to be in the TVA to solve the problem, or was his presence the reason why they all failed in the first place? The answer could be revealed in the season finale.
The title for Loki Season 2 Episode 5 was revealed to be Science/Fiction and it serves as the second season’s penultimate episode. It is now streaming on Disney+.
