After taking his talents to MLS, La Pulga has been carrying Inter Miami CF on his back, winning all of his first three matches and already making history. In just a short period, Lionel Messi leads the weakest team in MLS and advances the club to the Leagues Cup 2023 Round of 16 after a 3-1 win over Orlando City.
Inter Miami had the worst record in MLS, but after signing Lionel Messi, the Argentine superstar stars turning things around
Technically, Lionel Messi has not played in a regular season game. In the midst of his transfer to the U.S., Messi joined Inter Miami CF during the Leagues Cup 2023. It would be evident that La Pulga will continue to dominate, just like what he has been doing for the past two decades. The Leagues Cup is a tournament combining all of the teams from MLS and Liga MX, amounting to a total of 47 clubs.

Messi has scored a successful goal in his third straight game. Since joining Inter Miami, Messi already logged five (5) goals despite being 36 years old. Messi scored the game-winning shot against Cruz Azul (MEX). He then proceeded to acquire two goals per game in his next two matches (Atlanta United and Orlando City). The 2022 World Cup champion is putting on a display of amazing talent as he beats Orlando City on August 3 and advances to the Round of 16 in the Leagues Cup. What’s even more impressive is that Inter Miami’s chances of winning the championship go significantly higher thanks to Messi.

Lionel Messi is already at the back end of his career and left his prime a long time ago. He isn’t the same offensive player he once was during his Barcelona days. However, the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner doesn’t seem to be slowing down despite his age. With his will to win, it wouldn’t be surprising that he is going to win the Leagues Cup championship for Inter Miami.
Round of 16 will commence on Sunday, August 6 with Inter Miami going against FC Dallas who had just won over Liga MX club Mazatlán FC (2-1) earlier. Dallas will host Miami but the time of the match is still to be determined. Also, Dallas FC would bring out their best and prepare for Lionel Messi’s domination. The club has notable players like the right winner Paul Arriola and the Ghanaian star Ema Twumasi. Meanwhile, Marco Farfan may be the one to have the honor of guarding Messi and preventing him from scoring, alongside the young goalkeeper Antonio Carrera.
