The struggling Lakers made a “not-so-huge” move by waiving DeAndre Jordan and signing D.J. Augustin as well as Wenyen Gabriel.
Jordan has incredibly underperformed this season. But, to be fair, D.J. Augustin is also playing only 12 minutes a game. Despite only being 33 years old, he already looks like a washed version of himself.
This season, he has averages of 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds a game. Not the kind of production the Lakers need right now for a big man.
His best years were his time with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017, where he averaged 12 points and 15.2 rebounds per contest while shooting almost 70% from the field. This was also the year he got selected as an All-Star for the first time. Jordan is also a three-time All-NBA member as well as a two-time NBA All-Defense team member. He once also lead the league in rebounding twice (2014,2015).

The two new additions of the Lakers, D.J. Augustin, and Wenyen Gabriel aren’t two of the biggest names available in the market. Augustin previously played for the Houston Rockets, while Gabriel played for the Clippers.

The Purple and Gold organization surprisingly did not make moves during the trade deadline. Even with their two new recent additions, this team still does not look any better.
They’ve been terrible and are greatly disappointing Laker fans. In their last 20 games, they have only managed to win 6 games. They are currently 9th in a loaded western conference, 27-33.
Fans and the media are uncertain of what the plans the Lakers have in mind, but with this move, they’re probably just clearing cap space. With DeAndre Jordan now waived, championship contenders like the Philadelphia 76ers are strongly in the pursuit of signing the big man.
