The New York Knicks and Kemba Walker agreed for the former all-star point guard to sit out for the remainder of the season. He will be on the sidelines until further notice from the management and coaching staff.
Currently sitting at the 12th seed (25-34) in a tight Eastern Conference, the Knicks are looking to be out of playoff contention. They’ve been struggling this season and have not performed very well. They have also been subpar and playing lackluster defense.
Last season, the hype was real for the Knicks.
The beloved team of New York went to the playoffs again after 8 years. Though they lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the 1st round, the future of the Knicks was looking bright, or so we thought.

This season, the Knicks signed the 31-year-old point guard after a buyout from the Oklahoma City Thunder. They signed him to a 2-year, 18 million contract.

He was supposed to be a great pickup, as he can play a starting point guard for the Knicks and team up with Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, Evan Fournier, and Derrick Rose. Walker ended up being a defensive liability for the team. He has lost his touch and his decision-making was horrible at times.

Although Kemba is not playing well, he is not necessarily the main reason why the Knicks are failing. Julius Randle and Evan Fournier have underperformed too. Also, their young core has not really lived up to their potential yet. Additionally, coach Tom Thibodeau hasn’t utilized his players very well this season.
It’s safe to say that the experiment did not work out so well for the Knicks.
Kemba Walker was still an All-Star just two seasons ago. Currently, his game has abruptly declined. Honestly, he has underperformed this season. He is averaging 11.6 points, 3.5 assists, and 3 rebounds a game while playing for the Knicks. These are his lowest averages since he got drafted back in 2011.

Sitting Kemba Walker out for the rest of the season could be a potential move of trading him this offseason. But, it could also mean that the organization wants him to prepare himself for the next season. It looked like he is not feeling himself in New York, but things could change after the season ends.
With Kemba on the sidelines, this also gives their younger core more minutes to play and develop into better players. Obi Toppin, RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish, and Immanuel Quickley can take their game to the next level.
