K-pop world just faced another news of a leaving member. NCT and WayV’s Lucas just dropped a breaking on the afternoon of May 10, 2023. After his hiatus from group activities and the occasional updates on social media, Lucas finally gave the word about his current situation at SM. As of May 10, Lucas officially leaves the groups NCT and WayV, but will he stay in SM Entertainment still?
Lucas formerly belonged to the 23-member boy group of SM, Neo Culture Technology, or NCT. Under the said group, he was under a sub-unit, WayV, which happens to be the fourth unit of NCT and is composed of Chinese members. Along with him in WayV are Ten, WinWin, XiaoJun, Kun, Hendery, and YangYang.

SM Entertainment released the news at around 1:38 P.M. KST on their social media account. The statement was written in Korean, English, and Chinese. The statement opens with the announcement of Lucas’ plans. They then added that the company and Lucas mutually decided for him to part ways with both of the groups.

In a handwritten letter posted on his official Instagram account, Lucas also shared a Chinese handwritten letter about his departure. He posted Korean and English translations in the caption of the photo. “I sincerely feel sorry for the members, and it is with a heavy heart that I leave behind a long-standing friendship,” the 24-year-old idol shared.
Following the previous issues that caused him to halt his activities, Lucas hopes and seeks to be a better idol and person. “I will strive to become a more mature Huang Xuxi and an even better Lucas,” he adds.
Lucas never forgets those fans who stood by his side during the rough times. He sends his gratitude to all of them as he ends the letter. Now, what happens to Lucas?
Will he stay in SM?
According to both statements from SM Entertainment and Lucas, the idol did not leave the company, nor had his contract terminated. SM clarified that Lucas would pursue a solo career to showcase to fans. However, no possible debut date has been mentioned.
On the other hand, Lucas wishes to have the courage to once again face his fans over a year of hiatus. He would continue to be an idol as a soloist to give back to his loyal fans. So, we hope you wouldn’t get too saddened about the news, Lucas stans. Hopefully, you can see more of him soon.
Previous issue
In mid-2021, several controversies involving Lucas and his ex-girlfriends tied him down. A Korean netizen claimed to be Lucas’ ex-girlfriend and shared comments about the idol being a gaslighter and gold digger. It all started as her being a fan, not until Lucas approached her. The two began dating, and she shared about giving him luxurious gifts.
At first, Lucas appreciated it, but later on, he rejected it as he said that he didn’t need gifts “unless it was a house or a car,” according to a translated report from Soompi. It even reached the point that it just became a routine. He comes to the hotel room, calls and orders room service, sleeps, leaves, and keeps his distance. The ex-girlfriend also left screenshots of the alleged chat logs between her and the K-pop idol.
What made it more controversial was a Chinese netizen also claimed to have experienced the same treatment from Lucas. The other ex-girlfriend shared this the next day after the Korean netizen allegedly exposed the idol. The Chinese ex-girlfriend believes that they have been dating Lucas at the same time.
SM and Lucas released a statement and an apology on August 25, 2021. The company chose to halt the activities of the idol, including the supposed debut of WayV’s Lucas and Hendery‘s track Jalapeño. They may not straightforwardly confirm it, but Lucas’ apology for his past actions likely clears it.
