The third generation of K-pop brought a lot of international fans to enjoy their music. As much as many people would probably argue, the 3rd generation could be called the ‘biggest and most popular generation’ as of this moment. This era holds groups such as BTS, BLACKPINK, SEVENTEEN, TWICE, NCT, RED VELVET, and many more. Now, here’s a list of K-pop groups that may renew or may disband this year, 2023. Shall we take a look at these 2016 K-pop group debutants?
Renewing or disbanding K-pop groups
We’re still in the process of letting the word ‘disband’ sink in — and we hope not to see it happen in these 2016 K-pop groups. Fingers crossed, K-pop fans!
MOMOLAND
- Almost a week ago, the news pops out from online South Korean news outlets. All MOMOLAND members decide to not renew their contracts. There’s no announcement yet on whether the group would disband, but hopefully not. MOMOLAND deserves better treatment than what MLD Entertainment gives them, and MERRIES seem relaxed with this decision.

- MOMOLAND holds two hits that significantly shook the world — Bboom Bboom and BAAM. The current members consist of Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy. Do you think they should renew or disband?
BLACKPINK
- As we recently covered, as of this writing, no announcement still about BLACKPINK’s decision. We are still hopeful that the four-member girl group would renew as BLACKPINK still.
- Currently, the group continues with its BORN PINK World Tour. BLINKs, on the other hand, waits for JISOO’s solo could drop anytime this year.

ASTRO
- They should renew, and we hope they would! Given that the group has been active as six, they also have sub-units on the side. ASTRO has yet to make its decision if all members would renew or will see a disbandment.

- However, some think that idol and actor Cha Eun Woo, may or may not pursue being one of ASTRO. It is a possibility that Eun Woo would choose his acting career over his idol life, so that’s what we have to wait for. What do you think, would they renew or disband?
COSMIC GIRLS (WJSN)
- The owner of what idols have been listening to every New Year “As You Wish” — the Cosmic Girls AKA WJSN. The group also belongs to the 2016 K-pop debut groups. UJUNGs and other fans lean on a positive note that the STARSHIP Entertainment’s girl group would renew.

- About a month ago, WJSN posted on their individual Instagram a somehow cryptic photo — a black and white group photo in their practice room. We do hope that’s a lowkey sign that they’re in for a long time! WJSN members include EXY, Seola, Bona, Soobin, Luda, Dawon, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Yeonjung, and the China line – Xuan Yi, Cheng Xiao, and Mei Qi.
NCT
- One of the groups that we can’t see disbanding anytime soon would be SM Entertainment’s NCT. The three sub-units, NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DREAM debuted way back in 2016, and all have been active in releasing music.
- However, we can’t say for the 23-member boy group, if everyone would stay. NCTzens should ready themselves, just in case there may be members to leave or not renew. Also, the ages of these men mean that military enlistment is nearing too, ready your hearts!
PENTAGON
- Jumping to the next 2016 debutant, Cube Entertainment’s PENTAGON may be at an edge. Just last year, Cube disbanded their 3rd generation girl group, CLC. Now fans feared the same treatment to PENTAGON.

- In addition, PENTAGON’s Hui decides to join Boys’ Planet, a survival show in South Korea. Somehow, this felt nerve-wracking for UNIVERSEs, but no official statement has been made about the group’s renewal (but we’re all hoping!)
VICTON
- Lastly on our list of K-pop groups to renew or disband is VICTON. Well, if you’ve seen how the members bond, you’ll probably hope for them to renew. Their fandom, ALICEs, does believe that IST Entertainment’s VICTON would continue their group’s career.

- The boy group had their last comeback in October 2022, we need new music by now, VICTON! Also, please renew your contracts!
Seven years in, and we hope these K-pop groups would choose to renew instead of disbanding. They shared and inspires their music with their fans, and we hope that will continue for a long time. Thoughts?
