Jhulan Goswami Becomes Joint-Highest Wicket Taker In Women’s World Cup

The Indian pacer, Jhulan Goswami has become the joint-highest wicket taker in the Women’s World Cup. She achieved this milestone on Thursday playing against New Zealand in the ongoing tournament when she dismissed wicketkeeper Katey Martin in the 50th over. She equaled the tally of 39 wickets taken by Lyn Fullston of Australia from 1982 to 1988. Fullston took 20 matches to achieve the milestone. However, Goswami took 30 matches.

In an illustrious career spanning two decades, Goswami has now 39 wickets to her name across five Women’s Cricket World Cups since 2005. She made her international debut in 2002 in a one-day International Match against England in Chennai. The 39-year-old also has the most scalps in all Women’s One-Day Internationals (WODIs) with 248 wickets in 197 matches.

ICC Women’s World Cup 2022

Currently, ICC women’s World Cup 2022 is going on. India is in 5th position in the points table. Jhulan Goswami is playing the World Cup for the 5th time.  She continuously breaks and makes a new record in the cricketing world. A lot of records have been registered by her.

Moreover, in India’s opening match, she bowled a brilliant spell, returning 2/26, in India’s win over Pakistan. This match was a must-win match as India men have lost their first game against Pakistan men in the T20 World Cup.

India Women have played two matches till now.

First against Pakistan which they won easily. The second match was against New Zealand. Unfortunately, they lost the match by 62 runs.

  • Goswami ended with figures of one for 41 in nine overs. Pooja Vastrakar scalped four wickets as India restricted New Zealand to 260/9.
  • Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr played brilliant innings of 75 and 50 respectively.

But India couldn’t make it, only Harmanpreet Kaur was there on the crease. She scored brilliant 71 runs.  But still more matches are yet to come and Indian women will fight back to win the World Cup.
