Jackie Chan confirms Rush Hour 4; Is Chris Tucker part of the cast? All details

Jackie Chan is more than just an actor, he is a global phenomenon and a pop culture icon. But even he struggled to get the Hollywood roles he wanted until the early 1990s. More specifically, until Rush Hour happened.

Fifteen years after the release of Rush Hour 3, the blockbuster action-comedy franchise is finally getting its fourth part real soon. And we can’t control our excitement!

Jackie Chan’s announcement

Jackie Chan made a rare appearance at this year’s Red Sea Film Festival. Speaking at a workshop, the martial arts legend finally confirmed the Rush Hour sequel himself.

  • When Chan said the words, “We’re talking about Part 4,” the crowd inevitably went wild.

  • He confirmed that the film had “a director” without mentioning who is piloting the film. A meeting was scheduled with this “director” later that evening to discuss the script.
  • Rush Hour 4 has been in the pipeline for many years, staying as a rumor without much credibility. Jackie Chan’s announcement has finally made it solid.

The possible cast of Rush Hour 4

The sequel would be pointless without Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker reprising their roles as Inspector Lee and Officer Carter from the previous three films.

  • In 2019, Chris Tucker posed with Jackie Chan for a picture, holding up four fingers. As a result, fans started to read between the lines and confirmed Rush Hour 4 was on its way.

  • Zhang Jingchu who played Soo-Yung, the Chinese ambassador’s daughter, in Rush Hour 3 will mostly return for the sequel.
  • As of now, there is no confirmation about the rest of the cast. However, Mike Tyson is rumored to make an appearance in the film.

Who is directing Rush Hour 4?

Although Jackie Chan did not mention who will be directing the film, it goes without saying that Brett Ratner will not be returning.

  • Ratner had directed all three Rush Hour films but in 2017, he was accused of sexual harassment and misconduct. Since then, he has been blacklisted by Hollywood.
  • Brett Ratner’s absence will surely affect the film’s final quality and overall success. The first Rush Hour film grossed a whopping $70 million in its opening weekend.

Rush Hour movie franchise

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker redefined the buddy-cop film genre with their performances in Rush Hour. Chan plays a Hong Kong detective on an international crime mission. On the other hand, Tucker portrays a talkative LAPD cop who makes Chan’s life difficult.

  • The characters are loved for their impeccable comic timing and cross-cultural friendship. Their funny misadventures are leveled up by some of the best-ever fight sequences.
  • The three Rush Hour films came out in 1998, 2001, and 2007 respectively.

Rush Hour TV series

Now, it’s impossible to imagine the franchise without Jackie Chan’s lightning-fast stunts or Chris Tucker’s humorous dialogue delivery

  • However, studio executives did try to replace them with different actors playing Carter and Lee in the 2016 Rush Hour TV series.

  • The show was canceled after one forgettable season and Rush Hour fans let out a heavy sigh of relief when it happened.

It’s ironic to think that Jackie Chan almost turned down Rush Hour in the 1990s, tired of playing a police officer. But decades later, the action-comedy franchise is still good as new, and Rush Hour 4 will definitely be on our watchlist.
