Ja Morant accused of assaulting a 17-year-old – What really happened?

Ja Morant facing assault charges

Once again, serious allegations are surrounding the Memphis Grizzlies superstar point guard Ja Morant. Accusations are resurfacing against Morant in which he allegedly punched a 17-year-old teenager in a basketball pickup game in his home in Memphis last year.

The details of the assault in the boy‘s point of view

According to a report made by The Washington Post, July 2022, on what was supposed to be a fun-filled evening of basketball turned out to be a disaster for the highschooler. The 17-year-old basketball player who will not be named for safety purposes, was deemed as a star in his school.

According to people who knew Ja, the NBA all-star likes to host pick-up games a his gated basketball in his Memphis mansion. During a play where the young man was guard one of the best athletes today, tension started arising. Ja Morant threw the ball so hard into the boys chest to which he obliged by throwing the ball just as hard to Morant. In an unexpected fashion, the ball “slipped Morant’s hands” and ended up in his face.

It was at that moment that Ja and his confidant started punching the 17-year-old. According to a report made by the teenager, he was punched in the head and jaw by Morant “12 to 13 times”, while his friend, Davonte Pack, started giving blows “4 to 5 times” to his side. But, the altercation did not end there. As soon as the supposed victim wanted to leave the vicinity, the Grizzlies guard proceeded to go back inside home. However, he allegedly returned and “came outside with his gun” which was tucked in his waist, according to the boy.

The highschooler and his mother filed a lawsuit against Morant and Pack last September. The case is hidden from the public and investigation is still ongoing.

Ja Morant and his agent claim it was an act of “self defense”

The authorities did an investigation and questioned the basketball star of what happened. Although Ja Morant confirmed he “swung first”, he believes it was purely just “self defense”. He thought that the boy provoked him after throwing the ball to his face.

Later on, Jim Tanner, Ja Morant’s agent describes the allegations as “unsubstantiated rumors and gossip” and added that they were in fact “put out by people motivated to tear Ja down and tarnish his reputation for their own financial gain.”

Other prior incidents involving Ja Morant and everyone close to him

The most recent incident that involved Ja Morant and his entourage allegedly approached some Indiana Pacers staff aggressively and was reportedly “pointing red lasers” on them. This was after the event that Davonte Pack was escorted off the court because of an alternation with Pacers fans.

Not only that, last August, the police received a call from a mall in Memphis. The call was regarding yet another altercation between Morant’s camp and a group of civilians, specifically the employees and the security guards. Though the head of security wanted to file a report, no official arrests were made as both parties have already fled.

The Memphis Grizzlies are becoming the team NBA fans love to hate

Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Junior. These four form the best young core team in the league right now. Currently sitting on the 2nd seed, the Memphis Grizzlies are legit championship contenders in a stacked Western conference.

However, they also went on to become the most hated team in the NBA. There have been numerous reasons why people despise the Grizzlies despite the talent they bring to the table. With the current events, it’s safe to say that Ja Morant puts his team and himself in the middle of hellfire.
