At this point, people might be speculating that Gina died of natural causes (i.e. of old age) since she is already almost a hundred years old. However, last September 2022, Lollobrigida broke her thigh bone after a bad fall. Right after the injury, she immediately underwent surgery to fix her broken bone.

Despite her condition and age, she was reportedly able to go home and walk again. As of this writing, no information regarding the actress’ cause of death has been announced by the family yet.

Lollobrigida’s life and work

  • Gina Lollobrigida, born Luigina Lollobrigida, was born on July 4, 1927, in a small town in Subiaco, Italy. Little do her parents know, Gina would become one of the most iconic celebrities of all time.

  • Not only was she an amazing actress and a huge sex symbol in Europe during the 1950s and 1960s, but she was also a great photographer, a beauty queen, a model, and a talented artist (painter and sculptor). To put it simply, Lollobrigida was the perfect example of “Beauty and Brains”.
  • Her most famous movies were The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1956), Beat The Devil (1953), Beautiful but Dangerous (1953), Venere Imperiale (1962), Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (1968), and many more. Additionally, she was once dubbed “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World” after joining Miss Italy despite not winning the competition.
  • Gina was easily one of the most recognizable icons in her generation. She stood tall alongside great leading men in Hollywood like Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, Rock Hudson, Burt Lancaster, and Tony Curtis. Although films she made were seeing a decline in viewers during the ’70s, she quickly picked up a new hobby – Photography and Arts.
  • Years after her great stint as a movie star, she appeared in some TV shows in the ’80s such as Falcon Crest (1984). Lollobrigida definitely had a great career and is a true legend at her craft.
  • She also appeared in some award shows, celebrity events, and social gatherings even at the back end of her career. Just last year, at 95 years old, Gina ran for a senatorial seat in Italy. However, it was not to be. Regardless, it was an impressive feat that even at her age, she still had visions for the Italian people.

We offer our prayers and condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased Gina Lollobrigida. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below. For more content, stay with us, here at Spiel Times.
