After 11 seasons of The Walking Dead, the show’s success has already created a whole post-apocalyptic universe to enthrall its fans. Just recently, AMC released a teaser trailer for the latest upcoming spinoff series called The Walking Dead: Dead City which will feature the original members of the series, Maggie and their former enemy Negan. Along with it is the announcement of Fear the Walking Dead’s eighth and final season. With fans of TWD getting a handful of zombies coming their way, will Rick Grimes return to the screen in Dead City?

After a complex relationship formed between Maggie and Negan in The Walking Dead, the duo will head their own spinoff series which will lead them to New York City.

Lauren Cohan will reprise her role as Maggie Green while Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play as Negan again. Maggie and Negan will team up to rescue her son, Hershel, who was abducted and taken to the Big Apple. The Walking Dead: Dead City was reported to be a one-episode series that will give the viewers 6 episodes. Its official release will be on June 18, 2023. You can watch the upcoming series on AMC and AMC+, along with other upcoming TWD spinoffs.

Where is Rick Grimes? Is he still alive?
Those who have seen The Walking Dead’s series finale knew that Rick Grimes is very much alive. In season 9, Rick’s heroics led to a series of unfortunate events. After blowing up a bridge to save his friends and loved ones, his team thought that Rick was already dead. Although he was seen carried away by a Civic Republic Military (CRM) chopper, there was no clear evidence that Rick was well and alive. That was until the TWD series finale aired on television.
The finale showed a glimpse of the lives of Michonne and Rick. It was revealed that Rick Grimes was in the Civic Republic. He is very far away from his home and most likely would have a hard time returning to Michonne and his people.

Will Rick Grimes return in The Walking Dead: Dead City?
Unfortunately, there is no talk of Rick Grimes being part of The Walking Dead: Dead City. With the show revolving around Maggie and Negan in New York, Rick probably won’t be featured there since he is still somewhere in the CR. The cast may talk about him in some way but he wouldn’t be showing up anytime soon.
But, to give you some hope, another spinoff series titled “Summit” will show the next chapter on Rick and Michonne’s characters. Hopefully, we get to see Rick Grimes back in action again. Summit has already begun filming in February in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to that, another spinoff series that will explain the existence of the Civic Republic called “World Beyond” is in the works. Unfortunately, no release date has been shared by the showrunners as of this moment.
