India vs. West Indies Series: Covid Outbreak In Indian Cricket Team

A sudden Covid outbreak has been reported in the Indian cricket team just 3 days before the series against West Indies. A total of 7 members of the Indian cricket team have tested positive. The senior opener Shikhar Dhawan, reserve opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer tested positive for the virus. Navdeep Saini, the net bowler has also tested positive for COVID-19. Saini was on the standby list.

The remaining three who tested positive for the virus are non-playing members fielding coach T Dilip, security liaison officer B Lokesh, and masseur Rajeev Kumar.

The players who have tested positive for the infection are largely asymptomatic.

The entire 7 members are currently in isolation. But this sudden outbreak has created troubles for the team, as KL Rahul is also not available for the 1st ODI. So it will be interesting to watch who will open the innings with Rohit Sharma. However, there is some good news both Rohit and Virat have tested negative for Covid. There is a very high probability that the standby players might get a chance.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Mayank Agarwal to India’s ODI squad after seven members, including three players of Team India (Senior Men) tested positive for COVID-19 following three rounds of RT-PCR testing,”
– BCCIHonorary Secretary Jay Shah

It is expected that M Shahrukh Khan, R Sai Kishore, Rishi Dhawan who were standby players also get a chance. Let’s hope for the best and pray for the speedy recovery of the players.
