2023 had been a tough year for fans, regarding military enlistment and contract renewal. This year, a new set of K-pop group contracts about to expire are already breaking the fans’ hearts. In case you are not aware, here is the list of the groups that may or may not continue as a whole this 2024. Who do you think will renew their contracts? Check them out below.
Will These K-pop Group Contracts Be Renewed?
All the BTS members entered the military last year, BLACKPINK only renewed their group contract with YG, MAMAMOO’s WheeIn and HwaSa were already in different agencies (as their group activities went on), WJSN’s Luda and Dawon left their agency (not the group), and many more happened. 2023 gave many group debuts, new agencies, solo debuts, and surprising comebacks, but nothing compares to the thrill of contract expiration and renewal. So, to keep up prepared for any more of these, here are the K-pop group contracts that end in 2024, and what fans say about it.
1) A.C.E
- Thoughts: Likely would renew their K-pop group contracts. As for the members, still unsure of what awaits.
It’s a bit uncertain if their group contract will end this year, given that some are suspended while members serve in the military. However, may it be this year or the next, fans hope that their K-pop group contract should be renewed, as people have been missing their music since they rendered their military service.
We do hope that A.C.E will renew their contracts, or at least their group contract. We don’t want to see another heartbreak this 2024.
2) Favorite
- Thoughts: More likely not to renew their K-pop group contracts with their agency — possible disbandment. Members could go in different careers.
As much as we don’t want to spoil the fun, we do think that there’s a possibility for Favorite not to renew. It’s been a long while since their last release, and fans have been searching for them and their next comeback or schedule, but with no luck.
But until there is no official announcement, fans should not lose hope. Who knows, their K-pop group contract might extend, and hopefully, we’ll see more of their new music and content. Please treat your artists right, agencies!
3) Golden Child
- Thoughts: Some members may renew, others may not, so there is a 50/50 chance of disbandment. The most likely cause is the agency handling the group if ever other members part ways.
Woollim Entertainment may have the lowest renewal rate among all agencies because of, perhaps, a lack of great management. With ten members in the group, it’s most likely that they will leave altogether, or some will be parting ways with the agency. It might be a pain talking about it right now, but it is what it is, K-pop fans.
This group has been one of the most underrated music in the K-pop industry among active groups. At this point, we hope that Golden Child will not disband. There’s a huge potential for some to leave, but we hope that they can stay, perform, and still create music as a group.
4) GreatGuys
- Thoughts: There seems to be no disbandment ahead, but several members leaving the group is still heartbreaking.
A few days ago, DNA Entertainment surprised GreatGuys’ fans with good and sad news all at once. Only three members decided to renew with the company, however, the others would be leaving to start a different path. After seven years of being a group, it’s heartbreaking to see them part ways, but also exciting for their future endeavors.
For the three members, we hope the company can keep their original name, GreatGuys. Not all members’ K-pop group contract was renewed, but hopefully, each of them would be successful in their own way.
5) ONF
- Thoughts: Most likely would not disband. The members will probably renew their K-pop group contracts after their military service.
A WM Entertainment representative is our highest pick to renew their K-pop group contract. The group members enlisted simultaneously for them to finish their years of service to stay together. If that isn’t a strong bond, then we don’t know what is.
They are one of the groups here that will mostly brave through the contract renewal phase this year. It’s quite uncertain if their contracts are suspended as they are in the military, but fans also see a bright future for ONF as a whole group. So, let’s wait and see after their service!
6) THE BOYZ
- Thoughts: Most likely would not disband, but could lose some members.
If you’re an avid fan of year-end shows, it’s impossible for you not to know THE BOYZ. The boy group is under IST Entertainment, along with APINK, VICTON, and Weeekly. The agency has been known for the lack of great treatment for their artists, just like the long wait for Weeekly’s recent comeback to be released. As for THE BOYZ, most likely many members will renew.
At this time, THE BOYZ is the most active group of the agency, so it would be hard for IST to let them go. Also, since the group is not really big, it would probably be a rough road ahead for any members who wish to go solo or turn to act. The best bet the members could make is to create good terms between them and IST for the group to offer their full potential as a whole.
7) Weki Meki
- Thoughts: Last but not least, Weki Meki will most likely disband. The agency is not taking care of its artists, which may urge them to set into different paths, perhaps solo or acting.
The only girl group we added to this list (and the most saddening for us), is Fantagio’s Weki Meki. To cut to the chase, we are confidently unsure if the members would still be renewing their K-pop group contract. With all the potential they have, the agency has been leaving them in the dark, even if their music continues to be back-to-back bops.
It’s been three years since Siesta, member Elly entered Queendom Puzzle, Yoo Jung debuted solo nearly two years ago, and the group is nowhere to be found. As this went out, several members or even the whole group would inevitably be wanting better treatment for themselves, and possibly part ways. In whatever decision Weki Meki wishes to make, their fans are out here supporting them all the way.
Are there any other K-pop group contracts that will end this 2024? If we missed them out, share them with us in the comments below. We hope that fans will always support these idols in every endeavor they wish to pursue. We wish them all the best!
