How much is Dua Lipa’s Met Gala necklace worth? Singer becomes the first person to wear Tiffany’s 100-carat Legendary white diamond

Dua Lipa flaunted a 100-carat diamond necklace on the Met Gala red carpet

Dua Lipa made a grand entrance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this Met Gala, stealing the show as one of the co-hosts for this year. The Levitating singer shared hosting duties with Black Panther actress Michaela Coel, Pretty Horses star Penelope Cruz, tennis legend Roger Federer, and Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.

The Grammy winner wore a vintage Chanel gown to pay tribute to the late designer, Karl Lagerfeld. However, nothing could compare to the 100-carat Tiffany and Co. diamond she wore around her neck. According to reports, the singer made history as the first person to wear the company’s new Legendary diamond, which is valued at over $10 million.

Dua Lipa wore two large diamonds at the Met Gala

Dua Lipa embodied the Met Gala theme in a white Chanel bridal ballgown, originally designed by Karl Lagerfeld in 1992. This iconic gown was previously worn by supermodel Claudia Schiffer as she closed the Chanel runway show in 1995-1996. The vintage gown features a basque waist, textured fabric, woven black trims, and a unique white fringed hem.

Lorenzo Posocco styled the 27-year-old, who wore her hair open and paired her outfit with silver stilettos and a nine-carat diamond ring from Tiffany and Co. She completed her look with the Lucida Star necklace, which features a stunning 100-carat white diamond also from Tiffany’s.

The new Legendary diamond from the company is similar to the iconic yellow Tiffany diamond in its shape and cut. According to the brand, it is a D-colored white diamond, with 82 facets, and is responsibly sourced from Botswana.

The original Tiffany diamond has only been worn four times in the last 66 years

In 1877, New York jeweler Charles Tiffany bought the original yellow Tiffany diamond in South Africa’s Kimberley diamond mines. In 2019, experts valued the 128.54-carat diamond at over $30 million. It is also an integral part of Tiffany’s history. Only four women have been fortunate enough to wear this priceless piece.

The diamond has been worn by only a select few throughout its history. In 1957, socialite Mary Whitehouse was the first to don the piece at a ball hosted by the jewelry company. In 1961, Audrey Hepburn became the second person to wear it. Lady Gaga wore it at the 2019 Academy Awards, and Beyonce in a 2021 Tiffany & Co. campaign.

This year was Dua Lipa’s second appearance at Met Gala. The singer attended the event in 2019, that had the theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion. Dua received praise for her peacock-colored psychedelic-print Atelier Versace ball gown, which perfectly captured the theme.
