How did Coca Cola create New AI Flavor? | Where to Buy Y3000

Coca Cola AI flavor Y3000

Coca Cola needs no introduction to innovation but some believe the iconic beverage company might have taken it a little too far with their new artificial intelligence (AI) inspired flavor Y3000. Just like its tagline promising a ‘futuristic flavor,’ the drink aims to transport consumers to the year 3000 with its unique taste. However, public reactions mostly suggest otherwise. Let’s take a look at all the details about Coca Cola’s new AI flavor Y3000, where to buy it, and how it tastes.

Coca Cola introduces new AI-flavored Y3000

The AI-flavored Y3000 is the latest in a long line of limited edition offerings from Coca Cola’s Creations segment. The company claims that the new drink’s flavor and look were tailor-made using the help of artificial intelligence

From the outset, the soda evokes a sense of a positive future in the distant year 3000. The silver-violet-magenta-cyan color palette on the label adds to this effect. The Coca Cola logo itself is made up of fluid dot clusters which represent human connections.

Coca-Cola’s senior director of global strategy, Oana Vlad, revealed how Y3000 came into existence. The company had asked fans to imagine a futuristic utopia where humans are seamlessly connected with technology and the environment.

Furthermore, AI collected taste preferences from well-researched user profiles of Coca Cola drinkers. Then the system used it combine and produce new flavor profiles that have a futuristic sense about them.

Y3000 comes in two variations: the original with 240 calories and high fructose corn syrup and a Zero Sugar version with no calories and sweetened with aspartame.

What does Y3000 taste like?

Let’s address the elephant in the room. Does the new AI-flavored Coca Cola Y3000 taste good? Well, not exactly, at least according to reviews from consumers on social media. At first sip, it’s almost indistinguishable from the classic Coke.

However, the issue begins when the Y3000’s flavor sort of leaves a residue at the back of the mouth with a flavor that doesn’t fade easily. X (Twitter) users have described the flavor as artificially fruity, like gummy bears, with an aftertaste of caramel and vanilla.

Surprisingly, many have preferred the Zero Sugar version over the regular one. While diet sodas aren’t exactly popular, the Y3000’s variant was sweeter than the original and less fruity for its own good. Some even prefer it at room temperature than usual Coke coldness.

Where to buy Coca Cola’s Y3000 limited edition

Coca Cola first announced the Y3000 on September 12, 2023. Since then, the product has been available in select stores only. To find out, visit the Where to Buy section on Coca Cola’s website. The drink is also available online on Walmart, but out of stock.

Apart from the soda itself, Coca Cola’s marketing for Y3000 includes an augmented reality (AR) experience. By scanning the QR code on the bottle, you can access a web app that uses AI to transform your surroundings into a scene out of a sci-fi movie.

Will AI change the food and drink industry?

Judging from how Coca Cola’s Y3000 drink has fared in the market, it’s safe to say that artificial intelligence is far away from creating original recipes that work with people. However, AI has helped the food industry by automating daily tasks and making them more efficient.

AI is good at meal planning and creating recipes out of available ingredients and other restrictions. Despite CokeGPT (as social media users call Y3000) turning out to be a gimmick, the technology is still improving the culinary arts.
