How Can Yuji Defy Sukuna’s Soul? Is His Lineage the Secret?

What are Yuji Itadori's Claws in JJK Chapter 238

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 238 left fans buzzing with excitement as Yuji finally stepped into the fighting ring, marking the beginning of what appears to be the manga’s epic final showdown. While Gojo’s fierce battle against Sukuna had left readers devastated, the spotlight has now shifted back to Yuji, and things look like they’re picking up the pace.

Yuji may not be the strongest character in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, but as the main protagonist, there’s no doubt that Gege has something significant in store for him.

Our prediction? Yuji’s ability to defy Sukuna’s soul isn’t a random occurrence; there’s a deeper, untold story lurking in the shadows of Yuji’s lineage. Akutami has been dropping hints throughout the series, and it is high time we started piecing them together to unlock the mystery. After all, how exactly is Yuji—a sixteen-year-old “nobody”—able to resist Sukuna? What is his role in this fight? How will Sukuna versus Yuji turn out?

Yuji’s true connection to Sukuna: Are they related?

The Yuji-Sukuna connection has fueled a whirlwind of theories among fans, and one intriguing possibility is that Yuji might have some deep-rooted ties to the King of Curses.

  • While it’s not confirmed whether he’s a direct descendant of Sukuna or linked to the Ryomen clan, the signs are there. Mahito once mentioned that the body takes the shape of the soul, meaning that Sukuna’s soul has no real reason to look like Yuji. Even Sukuna’s original form (as a cursed spirit) in Chapter 238 and various cover arts matches Yuji’s general description.

There’s just something about their resemblance that can’t be brushed off as mere coincidence.

  • When it comes to Yuji’s lineage, we’re in the dark, except for the nugget of information that his mother was a Jujutsu Sorcerer. It’s a hard to believe that her Anti-Gravity technique alone would make her the ideal candidate for Kenjaku to create Sukuna’s vessel.

There’s a hunch that there’s more to her bloodline, something special that drew Kenjaku’s attention. Why else would an ordinary sorcerer give birth to Sukuna’s vessel – one that is capable of defying and overpowering even Sukuna’s soul?

  • Even if we entertain the idea of Yuji having the Heavenly Restriction, it still makes sense for his ancestors to be connected to Sukuna. It’s like a missing piece of the puzzle. If Yuji and Sukuna share some familial link, it would explain why Yuji is the most compatible vessel for Sukuna’s soul, should the King of Curses ever come back to life. It’s a theory that even Kenjaku probably considered when making his plans.

Sukuna and Yuji might belong to the Same Clan of Sorcerers

We’re still unsure if Sukuna belonged to a clan called Ryomen or if, like his mythological counterpart, he was given the name at a later stage in his life.

  • But an intriguing possibility is that remnants of his clan, under different names, might have survived through the ages. Alternatively, if “Ryomen” was a title rather than a clan, Sukuna could have had ties to a clan that faded into history. The tales of legendary figures tend to evolve and omit crucial details over time, after all.
  • Kenjaku, who, as the only other cursed spirit to have lived as long as (if not longer) than Sukuna, could be one of the few individuals aware of any connection between a Jujutsu sorcerer clan and the King of Curses.

What does this mean for Yuji vs. Sukuna?

Beyond the poetic allure of Yuji’s connection to Sukuna lies a web of possibilities that could reshape the outcome of their impending battle. While it’s clear that Yuji isn’t on the same power level as Sukuna – let’s be real, Sukuna would probably win in the next few chapters – there’s a chance that their clash could culminate in a unique standoff.

Jujutsu Kaisen has masterfully woven the theme of restoration throughout its narrative, a theme that has driven major characters like Geto, Gojo, and Mahito. Sukuna, too, is no exception to this motif. In his own twisted way, he seeks to revive the thousand-year-old order and bring it back into the modern world by eradicating the world of Jujutsu Sorcerers.

In the grander scheme, Yuji’s role might not just be to finish Sukuna but to become the person that brings back order into the world. Whether this means metaphorically or quite literally, Yuji might be the key to revitalizing the Jujutsu world, just like his sensei and some of the strongest sorcerers of JJK history have desired.

The pieces are in place, and we’re eagerly awaiting to see how they all fit together in this narrative.

Conclusion:

As we look forward to the showdown between Yuji and Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen, there are some fascinating mysteries at play. Yuji’s family history and Sukuna’s desire for change add layers to this battle. It’s possible that Yuji could become a key player in reshaping the Jujutsu Sorcerer world. We’re excited to see how this story unfolds!
