What is Horimiya Piece?
Horimiya: The Missing Pieces is not a direct sequel to the first season. The creators of the manga previously mentioned that due to time constraints, they had to make difficult decisions when adapting the manga for the anime. This is why the anime trimmed some subplots and scenes or left them out entirely.
This is why they have produced Horimiya: The Missing Pieces. The show aims to rectify that by filling in those gaps and providing us with all the cherished “missing pieces” of the story.
What happened in Horimiya Piece Episode 1?

Horimiya: The Missing Pieces episode 1 was released on July 1, 2023, marking the highly awaited return of the romantic comedy series. While the return was not as magnificent as the first season, it delighted fans by reintroducing the fan-favourite character Miyamura to the screen along with others.
The episode began with Hori’s school day memories and progressed by presenting the unanimated manga parts of the series. The timeline of the episode does skip a bit, which fans should be aware of while watching. But overall, it was a wholesome episode full of hilarious events and a little of that blooming love that will be later emphasized more in the series.
Hori and Miyamura’s field trip to Kyoto

In the first episode of Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, Hori reflects on her post-graduation high school experiences. The story transports us back to a school trip to Kyoto, where Hori and her friends, Yuki, Miyamura, Toru, and Shuu, join their classmates for an annual excursion.
Hori worries about Miyamura’s discomfort in the communal bathhouse, which is designated for boys while girls have their own bathroom. She is also anxious about Miyamura sharing a room with Toru and Shuu.
Upon reaching the hotel, Hori and Yuki share a room and discuss their evening plans. Hori playfully suggests visiting the guys’ room, but Yuki hesitates, unsure if it’s appropriate.

Miyamura discovers that missing the designated bath time allows for a makeup session, but Shuu insists on dragging him to the bathhouse. He silently pleads for Toru’s help, who fabricates an excuse and claims that Miyamura is on his period.
The awkward situation escalates, prompting Miyamura to leave the bathhouse. In the hallway, he unexpectedly encounters Hori, feeling embarrassed and startled by the bathhouse incident. Trying to make light of the situation, Miyamura humorously recounts his fake claim of experiencing menstrual cramps.

Considering Miyamura’s predicament, Hori suggests using her room’s restroom as an alternative. Miyamura gratefully accepts her offer and quickly showers there. Before leaving, he ponders why Hori allowed him into her room.
Hori explains that it’s because he’s different, leading Miyamura to question her certainty before departing.
The next morning, Yuki shares the photos she captured during the trip, and Hori expresses her happiness about the field trip, which Miyamura concurs with.
Miyamura and Sengoku’s mandatory swimming class

In the second part of Horimiya: The Missing Pieces episode 1, the students return to their normal school routine after the trip. Remi accidentally drenches Miyamura while watering plants and notices his shorter hair.
She leads him to the school clinic to get a clean towel, where she questions his reluctance to bathe with other boys and playfully touches his chest, startling him.

Miyamura confides in Toru about the encounter, worried that Remi might discover his secret. Toru suggests Miyamura wear the female sailor uniform Hori gave him and grow his hair back.
Their conversation about uniforms attracts the attention of class president Sengoku, who admits his preference for tracksuits. Hori overhears their chat, taking note of Miyamura’s preferences. Meanwhile, Remi reveals her crush on Sengoku. Later, Miyamura and Kakeru express their dissatisfaction with their English teacher, Shin Yasuda, who announces a mandatory swimming class.

They negotiate with him, resulting in a punishment for cleaning the already clean pool area. The authorities hit Miyamura and Sengoku for slacking off during their cleaning session.
We see Remi walk by while she wears Kakeru’s sandals. Shin Yasuda eventually approaches them, and they pretend to be innocent and jokingly refer to him as the “Messiah.” However, another teacher quickly drags him away. After the teachers leave, Miyamura, Kakeru, and Toru chat.
Shu experiences a cramp in the pool and panics, prompting her and Toru to leave the water. Shu asks Toru why Miyamura and Kakeru are excused. Toru jokingly mentions Kakeru’s arm blowing up and Miyamura being on his period. Although Shu momentarily believes them, he responds with a funny yet blunt “Oh.”
