How’s your gaming experience with Hogwarts Legacy? Hogwarts is known to have hidden secrets and puzzles, even in the game too. When you explore the castle in Legacy, you may encounter mind-bending symbol puzzles that, to the extent, may need some helping hand. Here’s a guide on the symbol doors (if you’re having a difficult time) in Hogwarts, and how you can unlock it in no time. Let’s get into it, Wizards!
How to unlock the Symbol Doors in Hogwarts Legacy
Numerous puzzle doors in Hogwarts should be something to get used to. If you want to open this symbol puzzle door, it would take patience, and a few mathematics skills.
- If ever you’re facing the symbol door right now, you may wonder how would you open it with your character’s bare hands. You could try, but we suggest you find a major clue (and help) to succeed.
Get to the Divination Classroom Floo Flame
Head to The Library Annex side of Hogwarts to reach the Divination Classroom Floo Flame. For an easier way, you may fast travel to the said location. This should be just one among the many symbol doors.
- If you get to the area, head into the room on your left with the rafters. Just go straight the path until you can make a right. From there, you can find one of the animal symbol doors.
Pick up the Arithmancy Study Guide Page
Have you seen it already? If not, there should be a parchment in a chest around. The chest is located opposite the door.
- Pick up the Arithmancy Study Guide Page. It should be a torn page that consists of a list of numbers, each associated with magical beasts.
- If you take a closer look at the animals or beasts, you may know why are they. Do comment below if ever you have a thought on what are they. For now, bear with us with what we’ll address these beasts as.

- 0 – Owl
- 1 – Unicorn
- 2 – Horned Beast
- 3 – Three-headed Serpent
- 4 – Owl #2
- 5 – Turtle-like Beast
- 6 – Salamander
- 7 – Tentacled Beast
- 8 – Spider
- 9 – Multi-headed Beast
Unlock the door
Now that you acquired the major clue, let’s go to unlocking the door. Mathematics skills, are you ready? Kidding, it’s just simple math, so you can figure this out easily.
- Facing the door, engraved triangle diagrams can be seen. Let’s focus on the top triangle first. There should be a circle in the middle with a number in it, and three other circles on the corners of the triangle.
- Keep in mind that the middle number should be the sum of all the corners’ numbers. Each triangle diagram misses one number, so you have to compute for that. There should be symbol doors in different areas, however, the process of unlocking them is similar.
- For example, we have 9 in the middle, 2 on the left, the right’s missing, and the Three-headed Serpent on top. Take a peek at the Arithmancy Study Page Guide, the Serpent equates to 3. So 2 plus 3 would give you 5. Now, minus 9 to 5, and it should give you 4. What animal symbol corresponds to 8? Yup, the Owl #2.
- Move to the dial on the side of the door, and roll it to the second owl. Once finished, you can proceed to complete the lower triangle diagram. Just follow what we did earlier. FYI again, this photo is just a reference, so this is what it looks like when you turn the dial!
Head to the door
Once successful in solving and unlocking the symbol door, head into the door. Voila, go inside and see a chest and some other lots around.
