If you loved Dobby in the Harry Potter books, you will surely love another elf in Hogwarts Legacy – Penny. Giving a house elf a piece of clothing means that you are freeing him and giving him/her permission to leave. We’ve read it in the books and we’ve seen it in the movies. But, in the video game, it’s pretty different, especially for Penny.
Free Penny: Should you or should you not?
While exploring the game, you will come across a quest called “Minding Your Own Business”. This quest begins with a house elf standing outside a vacant shop. That elf would turn out to be PENNY.
After a long and terrifying quest, you will finally own a shop at Hogsmeade and be able to sell anything to the villagers. However, you are going to make a tough choice: release Penny. In Hogwarts Legacy, every choice you make would end with varying results. However, in this quest, whether you choose to set Penny free or acknowledge her, the result would be just the same. After all, Penny always wanted to run a shop with a friend. In this case, that would be you.

Despite your kind gesture of freeing Penny, she would still stay by your side and help around the store. However, freeing her means you are giving her something to wear, as an emblem of being a free elf. The piece of clothing – a hat – you will be giving her would be something you found in St. Mungo’s dungeon. By doing so, Penny would think you are a kind and generous boss and she would heavily thank you. But, if you choose the second option, although Penny will stay, she won’t be a free elf and that fancy hat you were supposed to give her will be out of the equation.

Make more money in Hogwarts Legacy
- After completing the quest, you would be the official owner of Madam Mason’s shop. You have done decided what you’re going to do with Penny, now it’s time to decide what’s going to happen with the shop.

- We’re gonna start off by choosing your shop’s name. With this, you’ll be given three choices: Vesters and Venum, Cladwell and Brewsters, or Stitches and Draughts. Once again, whatever your decision is won’t affect any outcome. Now that you have a shop, how can you earn money?
- Well, Penny said earlier that “she can sell absolutely anything”. As a wizard/witch, you can find a lot of things and give them to Penny. Later on, your confidant house elf would sell them at a 10% markup price. Truthfully, that’s great profit!
