Hinterland Games Warns Job Seekers of Recruitment Scam

Vancouver-based game developer Hinterland Games, the company behind “The Long Dark,” has issued a warning about a scam targeting job seekers in the gaming industry.

Some scammers are pretending to be Hinterland, luring job seekers in with fake offers. They might say you got the gig after just one interview or try to chat you up over the phone – all red flags! Hinterland always makes video calls for real interviews so you can see each other face-to-face.

* We will never make an offer after a single interview
* We will never do an interview over the phone; it will always be a video interview where you can see our faces and we can see yours.

Beware of Scammers

  • Check the e-mail address. Real Hinterland emails will always end in “@hinterland.com” and come from either Falisha Ali or Allie Hackston. Don’t trust anything else.
  • As mentioned in their post, Hinterland would never ask you for money to apply for a job. That’s a giant red flag.
  • Lastly, these scammers are also reportedly trying to impersonate other Canadian game studios with the email address “jobs@studiogames.ca.” If you see anything from that address, report it.

Hinterland feels terrible that anyone might get scammed. So, the next time you see a job offer, be super careful, especially if it seems too good to be true.

Hinterland Job Scam Alert

Hinterland sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this scam may have caused and urges job seekers to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited job offers.
