HBO’s Succession trailer breakdown – what we know so far about the final season

HBO Max just released a new trailer for the fourth and final season of the blockbuster family drama Succession and fans cannot contain their excitement. The Emmy-winning show returns for the final time as the power struggle between the Roy family continues. The future of Waystar Royco still hangs in the balance as the audience look forward to who will emerge victorious as the successor of the patriarch Logan Roy.

The final season features most of the primary cast returning for one last time. This includes the likes of Brian Cox and his four onscreen children Jeremy Strong, Alan Ruck, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook. Succession Season 4 premieres on HBO Max on March 26, 2023. Show creator Jesse Armstrong began filming for the show’s fourth season in June 2022.

What we know from the new Succession trailer

The trailer is highly suggestive of the concept that the enemy of an enemy is a friend. On that note, the siblings who attempted the coup – Connor, Kendall, Shiv and Roman – are most likely to team up with their father’s rivals. This includes the Pierce family, Sandi Furness as well as Kendall’s old friend Stewy Hosseini.

In the meantime, Logan Roy seems to be doing his best to hold the fort at ATN with Tom and Greg, the news channel owned by his company. One thing is for certain: the new Succession trailer promises a bloodbath between the Roys like never before in the final season on HBO.

We also hear Logan Roy getting called a lot of names in third person in the trailer. Some memorable quotes include “It’s as if Santa Claus was a hitman”, and “We’ve been schooled by a barbarian that goes by the name Logan Roy.”

What is Succession Season 4 about?

The third season’s finale ended with a failed coup by three of the siblings in the Roy family after Logan sold a significant portion of the organization to the Swedish tech visionary Lukas Matsson, played by Alexander Skarsgard

The final season’s official summary on HBO talks about the impact that the sale had on the Roys in terms of familial division in an already divided family. Fans expect the fourth season to take off from here and tie up loose ends. And of course, answer the biggest question since the show began: who will take over Waystar Royco after Logan Roy?

Why is HBO’s Succession such a massive hit?

Succession has a staggering 13 wins from 48 Primetime Emmy nominations. The third season’s finale alone had over 1.7 million viewers in the audience.

Succession’s popularity and success needs no introduction. From the opening scene of the pilot episode, this is a show that knows exactly what it wants to be. And Jesse Armstrong is unafraid to take risks to get there.

The premise of Succession is both simple and complex. On the surface, it’s a drama about a wealthy family fighting over control of their media empire. But as the show unfolds, it addresses deeper themes like power, greed, loyalty, and family dynamics.
