Hogwarts Legacy just started and a lot of spells and curses can be learned right away. Spells would take you to complete missions and progress into the game, so might as well learn everything you can. Pretty sure you learned Accio, Lumos, and the other spells for starters. The three Unforgivable Curses can be acquired along the way too, but for now, we can teach you how to unlock the Petrificus Totalus in Hogwarts Legacy! If you’re up for the Secrets of The Restricted Section quest, then let’s begin this guide, shall we?
How to unlock Petrificus Totalus in Hogwarts Legacy
The Petrificus Totalus spell should be under the stealth kill spell, not that it kills like the Avada Kedavra curse though. This spell may just be near the category of a deadly spell, it just makes the person unable to move or speak when struck. The person won’t really die but would probably turn into a statue or a rock or something, which could be almost similar to a lifeless body but at least they breathe! How can you get this spell then?
Unlock the Secrets of The Restricted Section quest
- Of course, there wouldn’t be a thrill if they’ll just hand the spell to the players. You have to unlock the quest of the ‘Secrets of The Restricted Section’ first. Don’t worry, you’ll receive this main quest in the early part of the game.
- Once it unlocks, you can accomplish it immediately, and here’s how you can do that.

Meet Sebastian Sallow
- Do you know Sebastian? Sebastian’s a Slytherin student, and as you progress into Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll get to know him more. Oh, you’ll know more spells from him too, so get ready to go do some casting!

- Anyway, meet Sebastian at the library, and you have to get into the Restricted Section of Hogwarts library. The Slytherin student makes you try the Disillusionment Charm first. You’ll need this to be unnoticed when you sneak into the Restricted Section. Yup, you can learn spells in Hogwarts Legacy through students!

- Moreover, after teaching you the charm, you and Sebastian would be sneaking up the library for you to fulfill the quest. Unfortunately, Petrificus Totalus isn’t a long-range spell, so you have to sneak up near the enemy you’d like to strike with it.
Percival Rackham’s Trial quest
- Alright, you can’t simply use the stealth spell on your enemies when you’re easily noticed, we know that. You can read and try the Petrificus Totalus during Percival Rackham’s Trial. To trigger the quest, you have to meet Professor Fig in the vicinity of the tower.

- In this quest, players take it from Professor Fig to try the Petrificus Totalus spell. We know that we should use the Disillusionment Charm to be invisible, before casting the Petrificus Totalus. Once you get near the enemy, throw the stealth spell to immobilize it. Then, that’s it!

More about the spell
- You have to learn how to properly cast the spell. It should be an easy spell to acquire, however, mastering it requires a lot of practice.
- Significantly, you can only cast the Petrificus Totalus while using the Disillusionment Charm. Remember to always do this spell unnoticed, you don’t want to attract attention, right?
