In Dead Island 2, you can take a quick break from the game’s main story campaign and complete side quests instead. There are side quests in the different regions in the game that rewards you with powerful weapons and upgrades. One of these is The Death of the Party in Dead Island 2, where you need to find Curtis’ safe key to get your hands on a powerful weapon.
How to unlock The Death of the Party in Dead Island 2
After finishing the main quest called “Call the Cavalry”, you will now have access to The Death of the Party. However, you need to complete the “Plumbing the Depths” first if you want to find Curtis’ safe key in the game.

During “Plumbing the Depths”, this is when you will first encounter a Screamer in the game. Check out our article on the different zombie types in Dead Island 2 to familiarize yourself with what they do and what kind of variants there are.
- If you haven’t unlocked Curtis Sinclair’s mansion yet, all you have to do is explore the streets of Bel-Air after leaving Emma Jaunt’s house. As you are walking, you will come across a house where someone is calling for you through their intercom.
- Interact with the intercom and follow the on-screen instructions. You will now need to enter an area where some zombies are loitering about.
Help Curtis during this side quest
After killing the zombies loitering in the area, a man appears on the balcony of the house. Speak with Curtis for a while and take note as he asks for your help in restoring power to his house.
- Go to the back left corner of the gardens where you will find a flight of stairs. This is where you need to go in order to restore the electricity to the mansion.
- Be warned as there will be a few zombies greeting you as soon as you make your way in there. After taking them down, you can see an electric cable split into two on the ground.
- Go outside and grab the jerrycan of water outside. Use the water to transport electricity from one end to the other. Your character will acknowledge that power is back up after this.

- You can now make your way back where you came from. Speak to Curtis and inform him that the power to his mansion is up and running again. You now have access to Curtis’ mansion after speaking with him.
Head inside and complete the final objectives for The Death of the Party
The final objectives in Dead Island 2’s “The Death of the Party” side quest takes place inside Curtis’ house. Be warned that you will have to take care of any zombies along the way as you make your way to the door.
- Curtis greets you atop a broken staircase when you finally make your way inside. After a short conversation with Curtis explaining how he intends to get downstairs, you will need to kill off the zombies attacking you.

- Once Curtis successfully gets downstairs using his lift, he will invite you into his sitting room. Speak with him for the final time. Afterwards, this completes “The Death of the Party” side quest in Dead Island 2.
Where to find Curtis’ safe key in Dead Island 2
After completing the quest, Curtis can be found with Emma and the other survivors at her house. Because of this, you can now explore Curtis’ mansion and find a safe inside it.
To unlock Curtis’ Valuables Safe, you need to find the key that’s hidden around somewhere on his property. Remember when we said that you need to complete “Plumbing the Depths” main quest first? This is because you need to defeat another Screamer in order to find Curtis’ safe key in Dead Island 2.
- If you have already completed “Plumbing the Depths” in Dead Island 2, expect Screamers to spawn regularly around Hell-A.
- You will want to find Crystal the Lawyer, a special type of Screamer. She often roams around Curtis’ mansion, so you won’t have trouble finding her. One of the places you can check is in his backyard. Look for the large tent and peep inside it to check if Crystal spawned there.
- After defeating Crystal the Lawyer, she drops Curtis’ Safe Key. Pick it up and make your way inside the mansion. Head to the eastern wing and look for a wardrobe that’s guarded by a zombie.
- Defeat the zombie and obtain the weapon from inside Curtis’ Safe. The rewards players get will vary, but whatever weapon you get is sure to make defeating zombies in Dead Island 2 easier.
