Animal Crossing: New Horizons New Year Events Guide

Isabelle’s bulletin board post on December 27 is the first to inform players about the countdown event. Isabelle can then be seen wearing a Happy New Year top hat and a tuxedo coat in her daily announcements on New Year’s Eve, and she’ll chat about the holiday. Players may walk straight to the plaza for New Year’s Eve celebrations that last all day in-game once they’ve donned their party clothes.

New Year’s Items

Beginning December 27, New Horizons players can purchase four exclusive New Year’s Eve products using the Nook Shopping app, which can be downloaded on their NookPhone or purchased at the Resident Services kiosk. When the player pushes A, the Sparkling Cider item can be held and used to make a toast. It can also be placed for decoration or left for another person to pick up and utilize.

New Year’s Noodles, Berliner, and Twelve-Grape Dish are three other culinary items that are limited-time, non-interactive offers that can be exhibited or gifted, just like other tiny furniture. There are no catalogs for these items, and they may only be purchased through Nook Shopping until December 31.

On New Year’s Eve, Isabelle and Tom Nook will give players a light stick and a New Year’s Hat or a New Year’s Silk Hat, respectively. The light stick is only available in yellow, while the colorful hats are available in eight different colors (blue, green, light blue, orange, pink, purple, red and yellow). Note that on any given island, Tom Nook will only have one style of hat in four different colors. Players may want to visit each other and acquire the remainder.

To commemorate the transition from 2020 to 2021, gamers can purchase seven more things through Nook Shopping starting on January 1st.

Kadomatsu
Toshigami-sama, a god of the new year, is welcomed into each house with a bamboo signpost to bless it.
Kagamimochi
On Jan. 11, “mirror mochi” is cracked apart and eaten as an offering to Toshigami-sama in order to share the spirit within for good health.
2021 Celebratory Arch
This balloon arch displays the new year’s Gregorian calendar number and wishes good luck to anybody who goes through it with their aspirations and dreams in their hearts.
New Year’s Shimekazari
Toshigami-sama is welcomed into the house with these rope decorations.
Yut Nori
Instead of dice, this traditional Korean board game is played using wooden sticks.
Zodiac Ox Figurine
This ornament is said to bring good luck in the Year of the Ox.
Olivier Salad
Lucien Olivier established this mainstay of Russian New Year’s traditions towards the end of the 19th century; there is no official recipe.

On the 31st of December, players can technically celebrate New Year’s Eve all day. At 5 a.m., Resident Services will close Isabelle and Tom Nook will change the dress to the nines at the square, besides a large countdown clock that will display how much time is remaining till midnight. Before the final countdown begins, players should speak with Isabelle to acquire a light stick. They can wave with their villagers to ring in the year 2021.

  • Apart from these preparations, December 31 in New Horizons is like any other day. Then, at 11 p.m., the villagers will begin to congregate in the square. This is where the music will alter as the night progresses, becoming more intense.
  • At 10 seconds till midnight, the countdown will begin in earnest, and fireworks will light up the sky. From 12 a.m. until 1 a.m., there will be fireworks. Players may wish to stay up late and photograph their snow-covered islands under the lights from midnight to 2 a.m.

New Year’s Resolutions

  • After the festivities on New Year’s Eve, players can talk to their villagers to learn each of their resolutions for the upcoming year. Isabelle will also wish the player a Happy New Year in her daily announcement on Jan. 1.
  • Although it isn’t possible for players to share their own resolutions with their villagers, this is a sweet bit of holiday dialogue worth checking out.
  • New Year’s decorations don’t stay up past the countdown event, but players can always purchase balloons from Nook’s Cranny. This is to accompany their 2021 Celebratory Arch furniture, to keep things festive as a new year begins.
