Phil Cassidy, a regular GTA character, appears briefly in the new GTA: The Trilogy video. Fans were quick to point out that he now wears a black t-shirt with a skull across the front instead of his customary Confederate flag.
- It’s unknown as to if this means all depictions of the Confederate flag must be removed. However, it may seem strange that Rockstar Games would allow such an alteration just for the clip.
- The gun enthusiast appears in GTA 3 and Vice City (as well as Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories). However, it is in Vice City that he wears the Confederate flag most openly. He’s also mocked in the game since he appears to be intoxicated before losing his arm in an explosion.
Lack of Censorship
Due to its complete lack of censorship, the popular series has been the subject of numerous lawsuits over the last 2 decades. Rockstar Games, on the other hand, regardless of the public uproar, continues the GTA series. The developers have created and continue to develop ground-breaking titles.
The Grand Theft Auto series has been used as a lens for American satire through the narrative and recreations of New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, consisting of a variety of aspects that reflect its society.
