Different kinds of Chests and rewards

We’re back at it again with another God of War: Ragnarok guide, gamers. In playing games, there’s this satisfaction in opening Chests and having rewards. Nothing is more rewarding than finding chests in games and taking the loot inside for yourself. In God of War: Ragnarok, there are different kinds of Chests with great rewards inside! Here are the different chests you can come across as you explore the different realms in God of War: Ragnarok.

Types of Chests in God of War: Ragnarok

1. Wooden Chest with Faint Gold Glow

This chest with a small gold glow can also be called a wooden chest in God of War: Ragnarok. These chests are the most common ones you’ll encounter on your adventures in the game. It is also the simplest chest to open.

  • Kratos simply breaks the lid of the chest in one swift move. From there, he will take the loot inside the Wooden Chest before setting off on his adventure again.
  • As for Atreus, he’ll try breaking it with his fist like Kratos does the first time you open one of these chests when controlling him. After he fails, Atreus will resort to using his bow to break the lid and collect the loot.

  • Since this is a common chest, it gives a basic reward to whoever finds it. All you can get from this chest is a good number of Hacksilver.

2. Chests with Red Glow

Are these chests? Coffins? Sarcophagi? With the number of odd things in God of War: Ragnarok, we actually can’t tell. This coffin-like chest emits a red glow from the inside that can be easily seen even from a distance.

  • Kratos opens one of these chests by sliding off the lid just enough for his hands to fit, carrying it, and pushing it off the other side. From there, he takes the loot with his left hand and gets himself some useful items.

  • Chests with a red glow offer rewards such as Hacksilver and crafting components. From the rewards themselves, you may save your Hacksilver for future usage, while using the crafting materials to enhance your equipment like the Leviathan Axe or the Blades of Chaos.
  • Some chests may contain just one kind of crafting component. However, there can be chests that give you more than one kind of these components.

3. Legendary Chests

You can tell that a chest is Legendary if it’s made of pure gold and it also gives off a strong glow. Among the other chests, this is one of the most important chests you should open as you journey in God of War: Ragnarok.

  • Kratos opens the Legendary Chests by lifting up its lid and struggling for a bit. That’s real gold for you.
  • He then takes a pouch from the chest in his left hand. These pouches contain valuable items like weapon attachments and runic attacks.

  • In this Legendary Chest we found while traveling across the Aurvangar Wetlands, we got the Deadly Obsidian Handles which can be attached to the Blades of Chaos.

4. Nornir Chests

Last but definitely not least, you may want to look for Nornir Chests in God of War: Ragnarok. Like the Legendary Chests, a Nornir Chest contains valuable loot that will aid you on your journey across the Nine Realms. But of course, you’ll have to work hard to get the rewards locked away inside this chest.

God of War: Ragnarok, Nornir Chest

  • Once you successfully open the Nornir Chest, you’ll get any of the following rewards: rare weapon attachments, crafting components, Idunn Apples, or Horns of Blood Mead.
    • Iddun Apples increase your maximum health. As for Horns of Blood Mead, your rage meter will be increased.
  • It’s not easy to open a Nornir Chest. Because of how valuable the loot is inside, you’ll need to solve a puzzle involving seals that keep the chest locked. Check out our guide on how to unlock Nornir Chests if you’re stuck on one!

You can spot these glowing chests even from afar, so do take your time to stop over at them. In order to make your weapons stronger, the loot and rewards you get from these chests would be a lot of help. You may want to climb up walls, make that daring jump over a gap, and peek in caves to make sure you’re not missing any chests around!

Happy chests hunting, warriors!
