Best builds for Xiao in Genshin Impact
To maximize the use of Xiao in your party, it is highly recommended to make him the Main DPS of your team. This is because Xiao is one of the best damage dealers in Genshin Impact alongside Hu Tao. However, it would be best if you still paired him with the right team members to maximize his DMG output fully. Moreover, you also need to give Xiao the right weapon and artifacts to boost his stats significantly.
It is recommended to get Xiao to at least C1
Like other 5-star DPS characters, getting Xiao to C1 will help solve the high cost of his Elemental Skill and Burst. In addition, getting him to C1 helps him regenerate his Energy since casting his Burst is costly.
However, Xiao is an excellent DPS unit at C0. You just have to pair him with either a battery or a good support to compensate for the high Energy cost of casting his abilities.

To maximize Xiao and his DMG output, the best build for Xiao would be a weapon that increases his CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK, and Elemental DMG.
Recommended Weapon for Xiao Main DPS Build
If you have his BiS polearm, the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear, this is the best weapon for Xiao. However, this is a 5-star weapon which is hard to get, especially if you’re running low on Primogems. Another alternative would be the Staff of Homa, Hu Tao’s signature polearm. But like the PJWS, you can only get it through the weapon banner.
But if you do not have both 5-star polearms, you can use any of the following 4-star weapons:
- Skyward Spine (5-star)
- Blackcliff Pole (4-star)
- Prototype Starglitter (4-star)
- Favonius Lance (4-star)
- Deathmatch (4-star)
- White Tassel (3-star)
Recommended artifacts
As for the best artifacts you can equip with Xiao, the Vermillion Hereafter set is the most recommended one. If you give Xiao a 4-pc Vermillion Hereafter set, you can boost his overall ATK and Elemental Burst DMG. Moreover, he loses HP whenever using his Elemental Burst (similar to Hu Tao). So by equipping him with a 4-pc from this set, you can see a significant increase in his ATK DMG.
